Camping At The Lodge In Watkins Glen NY

Not long ago, a little earlier this month, our family went on our annual camping vacation in upstate New York. This year was a little different. Actually, it was a lot different. We didn’t bring the camper. Neither did my parents, who also goes on this annual trip. We decided to try out the KOA’s new lodge.

This is the view behind the lodge. I wasn’t thrilled with the drop off back there and wouldn’t recommend leaving small children unattended.

When you walk intp the lodge you enter the main room. The main room contains the living room area and the kitchen area. The living room area has a futon that sleeps two.


Off the main room on one side is a bedroom that sleeps two. It has it’s own door and television.

Also on that side of the main room is the stairs to the loft, which sleeps two. There’s not a lot of room up there at all, basically enough to sleep.


Back downstairs, on the other side of the main room, there is a bathroom. This was great to have, much bigger then the one in the camper and far cleaner, more private and more convenient then the ones up at the campground office.

Just next to that is a small bedroom, with a set of bunkbeds.

I was pleased with our experience camping at the lodge. I’m not an outdoorsy type and don’t do tents and sleeping bags, so I didn’t miss that. I didn’t miss having to hitch up the trailer and towing it 300 miles either. And I really didn’t miss setting up the campsite on arrival and taking it down before departing. The lodge did cost more, but the increased money we paid to rent the lodge we saved on fuel costs. And best of all, we all got to be together.
