Have you ever been on vacation with your family? Have you ever been on a vacation with extended family members, or maybe just another family you are friends with? It’s so funny when think you know someone and then you discover that they are a completely different kind of vacationer then you are. Let me explain.
I was reading some articles on the P&Geveryday website and happened a cross a quiz entitled “What kind of vacationer are you?”. I was curious what it was about so I clicked over to read. The quiz is simple, it contained four questions. After you take the quiz you get results that tell you what kind of vacationer you are. The four possible results are:
- The Itinerary Queen
- The Easygoing Mama
- The Daring Adventurer
- The History Buff
The quiz results proclaimed me an Easygoing Mama. I gave it some thought and in the end decided that probably was the best choice for me. I am an easygoing person. I like a vacation with some activities, but also some downtime for rest and relaxation. I’ll jot down the things I really want to do and do those at the appropriate time when I get there. While spending time laying on a beach would probably be nice, it isn’t something I’ve been able to do in years. Sometimes while traveling I like to sleep in a little. Maybe put my feet up and read a little. I like to do things but for something I prefer to keep it loose. Footnote – we don’t travel travel much. For this post let’s just presume I’m talking about travel by car within six hours or so. If we were to go to let’s say a destination or a resort or somewhere exotic I’d cram as much as I could into that trip!
My Dad and brothers often say I am just like my Mom. Trust me, when it comes to vacations, I am not like my Mom.
My Mom likes a busy vacation. We’ve vacationed with her a number of times. There were times in the past where she’d actually make up an itinerary and hand it out. I kid you not. She’s like a cruise director. Or a warden. Maybe a hybrid cross between both. There were a couple of family vacations that we all said we needed a vacation from the vacation! There was one vacation where after we got home I swore I wouldn’t vacation with her anymore. Of course that didn’t happen. I thought better of things and came to my senses. I can’t blame my Mom for wanting to have fun and do stuff while she’s away. God, when I’m in my 70s like her I hope I have the energy she has! I have come to respect my Mom as a person over the years. In retrospect I know now that she tried to cram our vacations full of stuff because she wanted us to have experiences to remember and share years down the road.
Maybe itineraries are the way to go…..
