As a child I remember being fascinated with the way tiny little plants would develop from seeds. Sometimes. We don’t have the greenest of thumbs in our family. When offered the opportunity to check out the TickleMe Plant I just had to accept because the concept just sounded neat.
Brother Larry and Mark Chipkin used to grow TickleMe Plants in their parents’ apartment in the Bronx. Since then they developed kits to grow them easily indoors
year round, in order to share their love of this interactive plant with the world. The TickleMe Plant can grow indoors during all seasons and produces pink, puffy flowers. The plant moves something like a pet would move instead of a typical house plant.
I didn’t want to jinx the plants from the get to with my black thumb so I asked Mom Knows It All contributing editor Lara to check them out. Here’s her thoughts.
These plants seemed kind of interesting so we gave them a try. We had a 6 pot greenhouse and a party favor greenhouse. They give you plenty of seeds to keep planting. The package and website say that seeds sprout in days. It’s been close to three weeks since we attempted at growing the plants and we did get some little plants. In the directions it says it can take anywhere from 4-20 days for the plants to grow. They won’t be able to be “tickled” until the second row of leaves grow. It sounds like a very cute idea and something that would be neat for the kids to watch things grow. My kids check on them every once in awhile but so far we only have one row of leaves so no “tickling” of plants just yet. It’s great that the plants come with educational activities developed by teachers, making science and learning interesting, interactive and fun.
The TickleMe Plant is available in many different sizes of kits. They retail from $5.50 for a single pack of seeds to $87.95 for a complete classroom kit for 30-60 students. The TickleMe Plant would be a fun gift or party favor.
