This post is brought to you by Peek-A-Boo.
For years parents have been dragging out the video recorders on holidays and at family gatherings. The reason is simple. The camera can record things that cannot be properly explained by words. Think about it. We can say “his face was so happy” but when we share the story, we are the only ones that know what that imagery looked like and that’s in our mind. So out come the video cameras, recording all of those emotional moments for safekeeping and sharing.
Peek-A-Boo is the first iOS app to record your child playing the classic game of peek-a-boo.
When you open the Peek-A-Boo app you’re given some choices – Play, Parents, and Upgrade to Premium.
Play is where your child will spend their time with the app. Children see a colorful living room. During play they will interact with the app, enjoying themselves and learning about colors and shapes. Other rooms and additional content is also in development to be added in the future.
Can you see the difference in the photo above? When you tap the light it goes on and off. When you tap the pillows they name and change colors, and make sounds. Tap on the picture frame and the picture changes. And of course, you can’t forget the peek-a-boo. That’s what the child hears when they press the pillow that Mom is hiding behind.
Pressing the big red record button will record your child interacting with the app, capturing their smiles and giggles for you to play and replay as you wish. The photo above is a screenshot of a recording I made within the app. It should give you an idea of how it looks when your child is recorded enjoying the app. You can even share your videos with your family and friends on social media channels such as Facebook.
The other two buttons are for the parent’s use.
The Parents button is where you choose the avatar your child sees and the audio your child hears. It’s also where you sill find videos that have been recorded within the app. You can also reach the button to upgrade to premium from in here.
The Upgrade to Premium button gives parents the ability to personalize the app for a $2.99 fee. Having a premium account enables you the parent to use your own picture as the avatar and place your own voice in the app. It also removes all ads in the parent area.
Here’s a brief trailer showing how the app looks while in use.
This app is a simple and inexpensive way to capture some of your child’s joy for the future, as well as encourage their development. I think this app would be great for any child, but it might really help comfort a child who faces separation anxiety. The sharing feature is nice because it will let families share those little moments no matter what the distance.
