I love music. Unless the television is on I almost always have music on. I recently received an email with info on a cool site I was unfamiliar with, Slacker Radio.
“Slacker Radio (http://www.Slacker.com) is an Internet radio service allowing users to create their own customized music stations starting with either Slacker’s preset stations or their own custom built stations. Slacker offers many traditional genre, specialty and artist stations pre-made by professional DJs like “Today’s Hits”, “80’s, 90’s and Today”, “Country”, etc. while also letting users build entire stations of specific artists just by typing in their name. Users can continue to evolve any of these stations by rating favorite songs and banning artists or songs. Stations can also be fine tuned to play older or newer music, more hits or more eclectic music all through the intuitive interface at Slacker.com.”
The Slacker catalog contains more than 2.4 million songs. Slacker Radio has decided to celebrate graduates everywhere by creating a “2009 Grad Party” station. The station is playing classic “School” and “Graduation” themed songs and it’s listed in the Slacker spotlight section.
Slacker offers you two ways to listen – with a free slacker account or with a paid Slacker Plus account. The Slacker free account allows you to listen to the radio stations with an ad from time to time. If a song comes on that you don’t like you can “skip” the song and the station will move forward and play the next song. Free accounts only allow limited song skipping – 6 song skips per hour per station. Slacker Plus has all of the features of the free account and permits unlimited song skipping, eliminates audio and banner ads and provides song lyrics. Members with a premium account can also save their favorite songs so they can listen to them anytime. The charge for slacker Plus is $3.99 per month billed annually.
You can enjoy Slacker Radio both online and through mediums such as the Blackberry iPhone, Slacker G2, and Sony Bravia TVs.
I really like Slacker Radio. It’s got so many selections that it’s like satellite radio but it’s a lot more affordable then satellite radio. If you’re a music lover and are tired of your local stations or are sick of the endless chatter between songs then this is for you. I wish I could listen to it at work but we’re behind a blasted firewall. I had it on most of the night tonight while I was packing TJ’s stuff for his trip to California. Of course the first thing I searched for after logging in was Hinder. I found a Hinder station and left it on for a couple of hours. Not only did they play lots of Hinder but they played a number of other bands that I like and that we’ve seen live on tour with Hinder. I didn’t hear the same song twice. I checked out some other stations as well and had fun listening to some 80s rock.
