Top Family Vacation Spots

vacation planning

I am really predictable about my vacations. Chance are at least 50% that I will want to go to that special theme park in Florida. You know which one I mean – Disney World. There are lots of other places I want to go, but WDW lights up my child’s face like you wouldn’t believe. Plus, they’ve got Pooh. Karen shared her thoughts on locations to consider when planning a family vacation, which I am sharing with you with permission.

6 Locations for Your Next Family Vacation

I’m a strong believer that everyone needs work vacations. Families, in particular, can benefit from spending quality time together without the stress of work and school getting in the way. Instead, you’ll make memories together that you’ll remember for the rest of your lives.

Planning a family vacation can sometimes get stressful, but it’s worth the effort. And if you’re worried about being away from home for an extended period there are ways to work around that too. Today’s home security systems use integrated technology that allows you to monitor your home remotely from your phone. And you don’t have to dip too far into your vacation budget. ADT pricing starts at just $9 a week and they are number one home security provider in the country.

Now let’s check out a few of the top vacation locales for families and what they have to offer.

San Diego, CA

San Diego is a top travel destination for families that are looking for fun in the sun. The city is famous for its beautiful weather throughout the year, which makes it a great escape in the fall and winter. San Diego County has miles of beaches to explore, state parks for every interest and dozens of attractions kids will go gaga over. You can even across the Mexican border to make your trip international. The best time to plan a San Diego family vacation is in October. Throughout the month kids get in free to dozens of places, including top attractions like the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld.

Orlando, FL

There’s no way to have a list of family vacation spots without mentioning the most magical place in the world. Orlando is the home of Disney World, the one place virtually every kid under 10 wants to go. But the city has a lot to offer the entire family. In addition to the Magical Kingdom, there are a number of other world famous theme parks like Universal Studios, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Islands of Adventure. Venture into the city and you can get a taste of Orlando’s highly-rated restaurants, art museums and premier golfing.

Grand Canyon National Park

There are few things in life that can make anyone awestruck, but the Grand Canyon is one of them. Your family can enjoy hikes down into the canyon, guided tours with extremely knowledgeable park rangers and museums that celebrate the park’s first explorers. But don’t be surprised if you just spend a day or two basking in the beauty of the Grand Canyon. If you want to stay within the park itself you’ll have to plan in advance. Park rangers suggest that you reserve a spot at least a year in advance.

Tucson, AZ

Does one of your kids want to be a cowboy? The whole family can get an authentic trailblazing experience in Tucson, AZ. Dude ranches like Tanque Verde Ranch offer families all the Old West fun they can handle and beautiful desert views stretching as far as the eye can see. You’ll enjoy horseback riding, guided hikes, fishing, mountain bike riding, bar-be-cues and stories by the campfire. The best time to visit Tanque Verde Ranch is between June 1 and September 3. It may be a little hot, but during those three months, kids get to eat and attend camps for free.

Juneau, AK

If your family wants to go way off the beaten path and see the far corners of America there’s no better way to cover both bases than Juneau, Alaska. If nothing else, catching sight of the massive icebergs will be a story your kids will tell the rest of their lives. While you’re there you may also see migrating whales, porpoise, elk, polar bears and dozens of other animals that call Alaska home. Thompson Family Adventures offers great packages that split your vacation between land exploration and staying aboard the cruise ship Safari Endeavor.

St. Ann, Jamaica

Traveling with kids means having to juggle a lot of balls and cover way more bases than going on an adults-only trip. Why not minimize the stress with an all-inclusive trip that takes care of everything for you? The Franklyn D. Resort and Spa in St. Ann, Jamaica makes vacation planning easy because they do everything for you. Packages are also all-inclusive so you don’t have to worry about budgeting. In addition to beautiful beaches and countless aquatic activities, a big perk of this resort is each family gets their own personal nanny. Now that’s what I call a real vacation for parents. Plan a trip in the fall when the resort offers a “family fly free” deal.
