REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY – Protect Yourself And Get Sun Certified With Banana Boat

Banana Boat Logo

Summer is underway and going strong here at the Jersey shore. On almost any given day you can see both residents and tourists heading for the beaches. As a teenager I tried to get as tan as I could. When I was a lifeguard I was so dark that it was hard to tell where a black or brown bathing suit ended and my skin began. I know better now. While the tan you get from many hours in the sun may look nice, it’s just not healthy. We know now the risks are too great. My own mother, who has never been one to bask in the sun, was diagnosed with skin cancer a few years ago. I now do whatever I can to protect myself and my children from harmful UV rays.

The Banana Boat brand has been around for years, I remember seeing their products on store shelves when I worked in retail when I was in my twenties. I always thought their packaging was a bit more fun and colorful than most others. Well, they’re still around and right now they’re trying to help educate the public and help cure skin cancer. As a part of the Banana Boat Sun 101 education campaign, you can take a brief “Sun Certification” quiz on the Banana Boat Facebook page. Upon completion of the quiz you will receive a “Sun Certified” badge to display on your own Facebook wall and trigger a $1 donation to support The Skin Cancer Foundation’s sun education initiatives. Banana Boat’s goal is to sun certify 101,000 Americans, which would raise $101,000 for The Skin Cancer Foundation.

I received SPF 110 Kids Spray and a family size of the Sport Performance SPF 50 sunscreen. My youngest has had a couple of times where he’s had a reaction to either sun or heat or both. Plus he has sensitive skin. He’s young and loves to play outside, both here and at school. I feel good about sending him outside to play wearing a hypoallergenic sunscreen with an SPF of 110. I also really appreciate that this sunscreen is in an easy to use spray, because he isn’t always a fan of having lotions rubbed on. The Sport Performance Family Size Pump SPF 50 Lotion comes in a 12 oz family size pump bottle. This non-greasy lotion will be great for the rest of my family to use, I’m planning on packing it for our family camping trip next week since it’s both water and sweat resistant.

  1. Our family uses all different kinds of sunscreen. The kids go to the neighbor’s pool and use a spray on. My older daughter uses a lotion of 30spf. I rarely go outside in the heat so dont use any unless at one of kids ball games. Hubby wears nothing. Um…that sounded wrong. I meant he does not use sunscreen. LOL!

  2. I am subscribed via email and confirmed through Feedburner
Newsletter button doesn’t work even though I should already be subscribed

  3. We have stayed out of the sun on our really hot days but we use Water Babies typically as that seems to work best

  4. Like you on facebook-

  5. We use both liquid and spray. I really like the spray for quick application and I don’t want the sunscreen on my hands

  6. we use liquid–we went through a whole spray bottle in one outing so we have made the switch, even though it is much more inconvenient!
