Candlewick Press is one of the leading publishers of children’s books since 1992. Candlewick began as a publisher of picture books for young children, but since then have grown to include a wide range of books for all ages: board books to e-books to fiction books for older readers.

I was given the opportunity to review two of Candlewick’s books about love, right on time for Valentine’s Day.

A Kiss Like This by Mary Murphy is for pre-readers, ages 2-4. This book features adorably-illustrated animals who demonstrate the unique ways they kiss – giraffes with gentle and tall kisses and bees with fuzzy buzzy kisses, for example. An added entertainment factor is the split pages, where one side will explain each animal’s kiss and, when flipped over, your child can see the animals demonstrate their kisses. The illustrations are bright and colorful enough to keep a baby’s interest too, though the non board-book pages might be a bit too destructable for some! Interestingly, my 8 year old daughter enjoyed reading this book, especially the funny descriptions of each kiss. This is a book that can span quite a few age groups.

Visit Candlewick’s website, where you can download the most current catalog of books, learn more about the company, and read about the authors and illustrators behind the books.
