Did you know that tomorrow is the first-ever National Bike to School Day? I didn’t, prior to yesterday. My oldest son’s school is far too far to ride a bike to, and has major roads along the way. If we lived closer, or in a different type of area, I’d have no problem with him riding his bike to school. When I was his age, actually from childhood into late teens, I loved to ride my bicycle. Bicycle riding was a way to get around, and provided a sense of both fun and freedom. My favorite bike was the last one, and I think the one I had the longest. It was a beige ten speed. I went everywhere on that thing! Lately I have actually been thinking about bike riding again, as a form of exercise. I have no doubt that I’d start shopping at Walmart if I were looking for a bike. We’ve bought most of the boys bikes there because of their selection and price. It’s just a great one-stop shop for bikes and accessories. Here’s an example of some of the deals on bikes and accessories going on right now at Walmart and Walmart.com.

  • An assortment of girls and boys bikes starting at $58
  • Several bikes available only at Walmart including the Kent Super 32-inch Cruiser for $199 and Girls 20-inch Schwinn-Quality Spirit Bike for $99
  • An assortment of Schwinn helmets starting at $16.96
  • An assortment of air pumps starting at $9.96
  • $20 eGift Card with every Cruiser purchase at Walmart.com (available online only in celebration of National Bike Month)
  • More than 20 bike trailers available on Walmart.com that can be shipped for free to a Walmart store through Walmart’s Site to Store service

My best biking memory would be of my mom surprising me with a brand new bike on my birthday when I was like 8 or 9. It was purple, with a banana seat, tassles on the handlebars, the colored spokes and to top it off, the white basket with little flowers on it..lol I loved that bike and rode it up and down the street all day. My mom was always so generous to us kids, she was awesome! I don’t have a bike now but if I did I would like it to be purple again. Thanks for the giveaway! :)

I remember your riding. I member to this day you didn’t get home in time and I got frantic that something bad had happened. I had your father take to the roads to find you–incidentally safe on your bike reading a book.
