I’ve mentioned my love for Nascar Sprint Cup Racing a number of times over the years. I hate to miss watching a race. On almost any given raceday I can be found in front of a tv. Usually the only time I’m not in front of a tv on raceday is if I’m at the race. I currently go to two races per year – Watkins Glen NY and the fall race at Dover De. I have also been to Loudon NH, Pocono PA and Daytona FL. My dream is to go to a race at every track once. My other dream is to go to a couple night races, particularly Bristol TN and Richmond VA.

Watching the Cup race is one of my favorite ways to relax and one of my favorite ways to have fun. I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. I got my love for Nascar Sprint Cup Racing from my Dad when I was little, back in the day when it was called Winston Cup Racing and there was no race for the chase. Two of my three brothers love racing too. As a young girl growing up I remember sitting in the living room with my Dad, cheering Rusty on while he cheered for Bill Elliott. When my two younger brothers came along the at-home audience grew. When I got married the audience grew again. And then when I had children it grew yet again.

When we can’t be at the track we watch on television. I get together with my Dad and brother when we can, and when we can’t we use technology to enjoy the race together. It’s not unusual for one of us to call the other, either asking something like “did you see that?!”. Or, towards the end of the race, boast if our driver is doing well. And yes, a couple of us have even been known to do a little trash talking too, but all in good fun. See, we all have different favorite drivers.

My favorite driver is #1 Jamie McMurray. My Dad’s is #5 Kasey Kahne. My brother’s is #14 Tony Stewart. My husband’s favorite driver is #18 Kyle Busch. Having favorite drivers makes for an interesting race. This past Sunday I had a little race viewing party, something that is not unusual. Before the green flag drops I put out everyone’s favorite snacks – usually a healthy (meaning wide) variety of salty and sweet. M&M’s and other chocolates have been known to be spotted.

Depending on what time the race starts, we also often serve lunch or dinner. Generally we have an at-home version of tailgating, with hubby grilling things like burgers, dogs, sausages, steaks. Then we settle in and watch, all decked out in our racing shirts. We tend to get excited when our drivers are doing well. We also tend to get a bit disgruntled if something happens to one of our drivers. We even coach the crew during pitstops!

This past weekend we had a fun time watching the race but in the end none of us had the winning driver.Kasey Kahne finished 9th, #1 Jamie McMurray finished 19th, #14 Tony Stewart finished 25th, and #18 Kyle Busch finished 29th. Hubby was so bummed when Kyle fell out of contention. Not just because he’s a big Kyle Busch fan, but because I’d told him about the M&Ms Racing When We Win You Could Win Sweepstakes. In this sweepstakes, entrants get a chance to win a 2012 Toyota Camry each time #18 Kyle Busch wins. Now that’s a cool contest! Here’s some more information on that.

  1. Tailgating anywhere, anyhow can be a fun experience when the people you are with are good people. I love watching hubby and his kids do the races. I even volunteer to babysit so they can enjoy NASCAR live. Shared moments make thongs work or not.
