International Actress and Activist Freida Pinto Joins Plan ’s Because I am a Girl Campaign as Global Ambassador
Ms. Pinto to join Plan in promoting gender equality and lifting millions of girls out of poverty
NEW YORK, July 11 – Freida Pinto, star of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), is Plan’s newest Because I am a Girl Global Ambassador. Because I am a Girl is Plan’s global initiative that creates sustainable projects in developing countries to give girls access to clean water, food, healthcare, education, and protection from violence and exploitation.
“I have always been a true believer in the power of every individual, especially every girl. Last month, I had the amazing opportunity to travel with Plan to Sierra Leone and see firsthand how investing in a girl transforms an entire community,” says Ms. Pinto. “The treacherous web of barriers girls face worldwide is endless. But if we educate and empower girls, they will reach their fullest potential, pulling themselves and their families out of poverty.”
Girls in developing countries face overwhelming odds from the moment they are born. They are more likely than boys to suffer from malnutrition; be subject to violence; be forced into early marriage; be trafficked, sold, or coerced into the sex trade; or become infected with HIV. Often denied access to education and healthcare, girls languish behind their male counterparts.
But Plan, in partnership with ambassadors like Freida Pinto, is working to change the lives of girls and their families around the world. By 2015, Because I am a Girl will reach:
• 4 million girls directly through girl-focused programs;
• 40 million girls and boys through gender equality education and transformative programs; and
• 400 million girls through working with country governments to ensure equal access to education, healthcare, and opportunity.

Inspired by the wildly-popular “World’s Cutest Dog” Boo stuffed dog from GUND, the “Top Dog” Contest invites pup parents from around the country to submit photos of their own four-footed friends on the GUND Facebook page in one or all of the following four categories:
· Most Beautiful Dog
· Ugliest Dog
· “Doganista”/Best Dressed Dog
· Dog that Most Resembles its Owner

You may submit their dog photos via the contest tab on GUND’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/GottaGettaGUND), which will be live on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 12:00 a.m. EST. The contest will run July 16 – August 15, 2012; winners will be chosen the week of August 20th and announced the week of August 27th.

Simultaneously with the “Top Dog” Contest on Facebook, GUND will run the “Most Pinteresting Dog” Contest on Pinterest. Consumers will be asked to post their entry on their own pages, “tag” @GUNDMostPinterestingDog and submit the link to GUND at MostPinterestingDog@GUND.com. The “Most Pinteresting Dog” Contest winner will be selected based on the number of times the entry is “liked” on the GUND Pinterest board and the winner will receive a selection of GUND products valued at $250 retail.
