Walmart announced a line of furniture, bedding, decorative items and accessories just for teens called Your Zone. The line is designed so that the look of the room can be easily and affordably changed through the use of bedding, decoration and accessories while keeping the same furniture.
As a member of Walmart’s More Than Eleven Moms I was offered a challenge. Walmart, through the great folks at Rockfish Interactive, challenged me to see if I could redecorate my son’s room using only Your Zone products for $500. The timing couldn’t have been better so of course I accepted. (I did more than accept. I actually started yelling when I got the email but don’t tell anybody. LOL.)
My son TJ has been sharing a room with his younger brother CJ for quite some time now, sleeping on the top bunk. He’s been wanting his own bedroom for a while. He’s also growing really fast and wasn’t very comfortable on the top bunk. Since he’s almost 14 we decided to redecorate the boy cave back room he’s been using to play video games with his friends in and turn it into a bedroom.
The first thing we did was spend some time on the Walmart site using the Your Zone Design Your Room tool.
The Design Your Room tool was fun and helpful. The only improvement I can think of for it is if you could add more items. Once you add one item from a category you can’t add another item from that category.
Once we’d figured out what we wanted to do with the room we placed our order. Being a big fan of free shipping, we had everything delivered using Walmart’s free Site To Store shipping.
Next we started cleaning out the room. Anything broken or unusable was thrown away. This was a week long project in itself. It was amazing how much stuff was in that little room. More than a few surprises were discovered during the cleaning.
In a little less than two weeks I received the email letting me know that all of our items were available for pickup. Off I went to my local store, where one of the guys helped me carry everything out to my truck and load it up. Big thanks there, because a couple of the boxes were pretty big.
I brought everything home so that they could be unpacked, put together and into the room.

I stopped into Walmart to pick up a couple of things. As I was going through the store I stopped to look at a rack in the plus size women’s department that had nice character hoodies on it. I had just started looking and was admiring a nice Mickey top when two other women stopped at the rack. Woman 1 looked at one of the tops and says “Why do they think that all big people have to wear cutesy stuff like Winnie The Pooh? Why can’t they make nice stuff for big people like the stuff they make for the young women that you see in the skinny department? Who likes Winnie The Pooh anyway?” I looked at her and said “I like Winnie The Pooh.
