Preparing For Our Inaugural Voyage

Next week we go on our annual family vacation. Every year we go camping in upstate New York and attend the Nascar race. If you’re a regular reader you know that we got a larger travel trailer recently. This will be our inaugural voyage with it. Dad and I made a quick list of things I still need for safe rv towing that we have to get squared away in the next two days. RB already started loaded up the gear that will remain in the camper. I have to go in and clean it, probably tonight. I’m really looking forward to camping with about three times the space we’ve had in previous years. We’re going to try and schedule camping more often as well. Anyone else going to the race next week?

Heads Or Tails 93

This week’s Heads or Tails prompt is heads - motion. Because it’s heads or tails we’re writing about anything that has motion or moves or has movement.

We go camping every year. We retired our tiny travel trailer last year because it was so small I hated the sight of it, never mind being in it. I’ve had my eyes pealed for a good deal on a larger used travel trailer for almost a year now and finally found one this past weekend.

So. My contribution for this week is a photo of our new used travel trailer, which we got a really good deal on. My Dad and I went and picked it up today. It really moves, that’s for sure. It’s 28 foot long and barely fits in my driveway. It’s about twice the size of our last travel trailer. Now I’m looking forward to camping!

Fitting end to our trip

TJ just came in from getting me the mail and asked me what happened to the mailbox. I didn’t get a chance to share this story yet. Last night a little before 11 pm my Dad came down to pick up a set of keys of his that I had and to get the trailer backed into the driveway and unhitched safely. (We’ve already covered how bad I am at backing it up, remember?) I’d parked the trailer in the street in front of our house. RB’s truck was parked in front of me. Before I could get a chance to move RB’s truck Dad started backing up the trailer. I told him he was too close to the mailbox but he didn’t hear me. He hit my cat mailbox with the fender of my truck, breaking off the cat’s face. Now, that was a little troubling because my Mom had bought me that mailbox about four years ago while we were on vacation in Watkins Glen, from a guy that makes custom boxes. I love my mailbox. Now we’re going to have to do some surgery to get it repaired. It seemed to be a fitting end to the trip.

Travel trailer insurance

As previously mentioned, even before this last trip, I’ve been thinking about getting a larger travel trailer. I was surprised to learn in speaking with my Dad this past weekend that I wouldn’t have to put insurance on a travel trailer if I bought one, it would be covered under my car insurance. I was figuring I’d have to cough up some money to add it to my policy or find a policy with another insurer for it, so that was very good news.

RVs.com for old and new rvs

As I mentioned recently, we have a tiny travel trailer and have been considering getting something larger. My parents recommended we be triple sure that we could see ourselves in whatever we buy ten years down the road. I was in the mood to window shop a little bit today so I hit the internet. After I finished checking out some trailers I visited RVs.com, which is a website that helps people find, buy and sell both used and new RVs and motor homes. The best feature for me was the search by price option. Just by clicking search by price I was able to choose the year, make, model, category and price range I was interested in. I also enjoyed the blog, which was chock full of helpful hints and suggestions. If you’re considering getting an RV, take a look at this site.
