Raising The Bar No Child’s Left Behind On TNT

I remember when I was about fifteen and dating my Mom would tease me, telling me she was going to show boys I brought home my baby pictures. Sounds innocent, right? It was. The pictures were of me as a baby, naked on my belly on a little rug. I always begged her not to show them to the boys because I didn’t want to be embarrassed by a boy seeing my behind. In reality the picture was no big deal. I recall many of my friends telling me their parents had similar pictures. It was the thing back then. Anyway. I’ve seen the picture, there’s nothing sexual about it. In fact, my Mom asked me a month or so ago if she could put it on her blog. I told her yes and it’s still there. I didn’t give the picture another thought until I previewed this week’s episode of Raising The Bar.

Raising The Bar’s “No Child’s Left Behind” will air tonight, Monday June 29 at 10 pm est. In this episode a father is arrested when a photo he took of his young son in the bathtub winds up on a child pornography site. Jerry finds himself representing a client who does not feel sorry and won’t accept a plea because he feels nothing wrong. I won’t tell you the outcome of the case, it’s better if you watch the whole thing yourself.

As a parent and a blogger I felt this episode of Raising The Bar hit very close to home. It definitely provided food for thought. It also provided for some open conversation between RB, our 13 year old TJ and myself. We all felt that the father (the defendant) was not guilty. RB and I agreed that if we had taken a photo of our child in a similar situation we would not publicize it. TJ felt that a nude photo is inappropriate until the subject is old enough to answer for themselves if they want it taken. We all felt that the system should definitely go after the people who purposely posted the picture on the porn site, not the father even though he took the picture. The father only took the picture because he saw it as a way to capture his son’s joy. If we start censoring our photos aren’t we censoring our memories in a way?

Take a peek at tonight’s episode and decide for yourself.

Please tune in tonight to TNT and watch this episode of Raising The Bar. It will provide you some important food for thought. I would love to hear your thoughts on sharing personal family photos on the internet. What photos do you think are inappropriate? Should parents that share photos should be considered guilty if their photos fall into the wrong hands. If you were a member of the Raising The Bar jury would you have voted innocent or guilty?

Digital Picture Frames Make Excellent Gifts

_

Father’s Day is around the corner. Many people, including myself, often find themselves wondering what to get the important men in their lives. A great gift idea for men like this is a digital picture frame, such as the one I found on sale on the Buy.com website.

The Sungale 7″ LCD Digital Photo Frame is a wooden frame with 2 built in speakers, enabling full multimedia use. The frame has built in memory that can hold up to fifteen photos and it is compatible with removable media formats including SD, MMC, MS and XD. All you need to do is connect your memory card and you’re set. No configuration or set up is required, the frame is ready to use out of the box. The 16:9 widescreen display will autosize your pictures to best fit the frame. You can set the transition effects, as well as the brightness and contrast of your pictures. Once you have the frame in place you can use the included remote control to navigate through your pictures and control the sound.

Buy.com currently has the Sungale 7″ LCD Digital Photo Frame on sale for $39.79, which is a 55% discount from it’s regular price of $89.99. The frame also qualifies for free shipping, making it an even bigger savings.

Contemplating preserving family pictures

My parents love to take pictures. They have always taken a lot of them. My Mom has a hope chest filled with nothing but loose pictures. Of course as time goes by and pictures age the quality decreases and the color fades. I’ve always thought it would be neat if we could get all of those photos into digital form. But the idea of scanning a picture at a time on a flatbed scanner and then cropping and editing it is a giant pain in the butt. Not to mention the amout of time it would take. While checking out the Buy.com sale page I found something neat that might be a possible solution.

Hammacher Schlemmer makes this Digital Photograph Converter. The unit plugs into the USB port of your PC. It will convert pictures sized 3 1/2″ x 5″, 4″ x 6″, and 5″ x 7″. Users put the photo they want to convert into a tray and press a button. Using the same type of sensor found in digital cameras, the converter promises accurate images through the use of up to 1,800 dpi resolution, automatic exposure control and color balance. Regularly retailing for $199.99, Buy.com has this Photograph Converter on sale for $79.99. That’s a savings of 60%! It also qualifies for free shipping.

I’ve never seen a product like this before so I don’t know a lot about how well they work. I’m going to check out the review for this item. This looks like it would be an idea gift for anyone who enjoys digital photography and has got a lot of old pictures.

FREE Inkubook Photo Book Giveaway! No strings!

These days digital cameras are becoming more and more popular. I worked in hell computer catalog sales for more then ten years. I remember when consumers first started buying digital cameras and how expensive they were. They’re far more affordable now. I believe that as digital camera sales have increased so has the interest in photography. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stopped on someone’s blog to discover a great picture.

Great pictures deserve to be shown off.  One way of showing off pictures is in a photo book. That’s where Inkubook comes in, and the free photo books that I mentioned. Inkubook is an online photo book creation service. You can create your own photo book or you can collaborate on one with friends. The Inkubook service is an Author Solutions brand and it became available for the public to use in July. Since going public, Inkubook has listed to user feedback and added new features including an improved workflow, bigger, easier to find buttons and a streamlined invitation process. A new auto-fill feature is being added this week, which will offer auto placement for the really busy user.

In order to spread the word about their great easy to use service, Inkubook is offering anyone in the United States a free photo book if they join. All you need to do to qualify for a free photo book is sign up for Inkubook by November 3. No worries, it’s free to sign up. After signing up you can create your book for free, all you’ll be asked to pay is a nominal shipping charge of under $10. What a sweet deal!

Interested? Terrific! To get started creating your free photo book, go to inkubook.com and register for a free account. Remember, you must do this by November 3. Then you’re free to create your free book. Be sure to use the code TVL655 so that you get your free photo book. You have up to 30 days to finish creating your book with this offer. Be sure to tell your friends about this offer, because they’re eligible for it also. Just use the “invite friends” feature within your account and your friend will receive a promotion code for their free photo book.

I’m not making any money by writing about this, I’m just passing on what I think is a terrific offer. I’ve signed myself up for Inkubook just like I described above. I’m pretty excited and I’m already playing with a few ideas on what to put in my book. What are you going to put in your book?

New phone friend

My twelve year old has a phone friend. He discovered that his friend has a cousin that’s around the same age who he has a lot in common with. He’s supposed to meet her next weekend. Already they’re texting each other and talking on the phone. He flipped open his cell phone last night to show me a picture of the girl that she’d sent him. She was cute but looked a bit, um, developed. (I’m now thinking about never letting him out again.) I asked him why he had her picture if they’d never met and he told me it was because they’d exchanged. He then showed me a bunch of other pictures, apparently all of the kids exchanged them. At this rate he’s going to use up all of the space on his phone with all of these pictures. He’s got enough that if it was the old computer he was using he’d be needing some more dell memory.
