Heads Or Tails 64

This week’s Heads or Tails meme is heads or tails, which means you can choose either word given or both. The words this week are where and wear.

The first thing I thought of for the word where was “Where’s the beef?” When I searched for that I got some really interesting pictures back. When I thought of the word wear I thought of clothing but I figured everyone would think of that so I decided to try and use both. Which is how I got to the kids CD called “Where Oh Where’s My Underwear?”

The theme for this week’s Heads or Tails meme is talk. The first thing that came to mind when I think of the word talk is people talking in person and people talking on the telephone. I’m sure everyone else thought of that too, so I went with my next choice - music. Talk is in a lot of song lyrics. Here’s some that I thought of.

  • Poison - Talk Dirty To Me
  • Bonnie Raitt - Something To Talk About
  • Pretenders - Talk Of The Town
  • Peter Gabriel - Talk To Me
  • AC/DC - Money Talks

Can you think of any other song titles that have the word talk in them?

The theme for this week’s Heads or Tails meme is Heads or Tails. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the phrase heads or tails is a coin, but that’s boring. So I give you the second thing that came to my mind tonight, a head and a tail. This all started because on the way to take my son to Boy Scouts we saw a young girl who had far more body then she had bathing suit and her behind was EVERYWHERE. I couldn’t help laughing out loud. So yeah, I came home and saw the theme heads or tails and I thought of a man’s butt. (Eyes are my favorite, but a properly dressed butt is almost as good.) Then I saw Karen’s picture of Michael Phelps and I was done for.  That’s how you got a picture of a nice butt pair of men’s underwear. Then I was catching up on General Hospital and the character Jax came on, who I think is VERY nice looking. That’s how you got a picture of the actor Ingo Rademacher.

The theme for this week’s Heads or Tails meme is Doctor. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the word Doctor is the way my sons play pretend Doctor.

When TJ was young, we always thought he was the wackiest pretend Doctor around. When TJ wanted to play doctor we had to lie down on the couch. Whenever he used the little thermometer he’d tell us either our temperature was 2 or 200. He’d tell us to open our mouths and shove the mirrored tool in there and tell you to split up into the little basin. When he checked in your ears he’d tell you he saw things in there. He’d whack both of your knees with the little hammer and tell you he was checking your reflections. Shots were given in very odd places, if you had a headache you’d get your shot in the head. He’d take this other thing that came in the doctor kit and rub it on the bottom of your feet trying to tickle you and make you laugh. The only thing he ever actually used appropriately was the blood pressure cuff. If he checked our pressure we had to make bum-bum bum-bum noises to represent out heartbeat.

TJ’s long outgrown playing pretend Doctor. Now CJ plays pretend Doctor. He doesn’t do the same strange things his brother did, he actually uses most of the items in the doctor kit as they’re intended. (Maybe that’s because he’s seen so many doctors.) It’s still a blast watching my child have fun.

The theme for this week’s Heads or Tails meme is sit or stand. This is a picture of seat. A seat is a place to sit. I paid a fortune for this seat. This seat was in the 10th row. Please notice I am not in it. I was standing. We went to see the Hinder - Staind - Three Doors Down concert at the PNC Arts Center last week. My knee actually made it through the entire 40 minute Hinder set before giving out. We had a terrific time.

A special baseball game at Yankee Stadium

I found a terrific story this week that I want to share. Recently the Bronx NY Little League Challenger baseball team and the New Jersey District 8 Challenger baseball team from Newark got a once in a life time opportunity. They were given the chance to play an exhibition game in Yankee Stadium during MLB All Star Week. Both teams had 14 players for the one inning game. Each team got a chance at bat and to play defense. What a terrific opportunity to have some fun and make a terrific memory. There’s a nice piece of video up on the NBC website.

Challenger leagues are sports leagues for children with special needs or disabilities. My 9 year old son has participated in several Challenger events in our town over the years, and I can’t think of a program more worthwhile. Children can be paired with buddies if needed, and every child gets a chance to play in the game. Challenger sports are a wonderful opportunity for these children to participate in sports with other children and have some fun no matter what their abilities may be.

The theme for this week’s Heads or Tails meme is joke. I got a really cute joke in my email today so that’s the first thing I thought of. Here it is.

A 5th grader asked her mother the age-old question, “How did I get here?”.

Her mother told her, “God sent you.”

“Did God send you, too?” asked the child

“Yes, Dear,” the mother replied.

“What about Grandma and Grandpa?” the child persisted.

“He sent them also,” the mother said.

“Did he send their parents, too?” asked the child.

“Yes, Dear, He did,” said the mother patiently.

“So you’re telling me that there has been NO sex in this family for 200 years? No wonder everyone’s so damn grouchy around here.”

Best Day offers special needs kids an opportunity to have their best day

Time to Share Some Good Stuff!

The good news that I found this week and want to share is taking place in Sea Bright, NJ which is not far from me, about a half an hour away. The nonprofit organization called the Best Day Foundation has announced that it is holding a two day beach camp especially for special needs children. To some that might not sound like a big deal, but for many of these children it’s the first time they’ll ever get to be on the beach or in the water.
The two day camp will be held July 19-20 at Monmouth County’s 7 Presidents Oceanfront Park. Planned activities include a marine safety demonstration, stretching, sand obstacle course, body boarding, kayaking, tandem surfing, a hot lunch, and an awards ceremony. Registration must be done on the Best Day Foundation website by clicking the Get Involved - Participate link.

The Best Day Foundation’s mission is to provide “safe, life-changing beach days to children with special needs, regardless of their challenges.”  The Foundation set up it’s first chapter here in Sea Bright, NJ which is in Monmouth County. The Sea Bright chapter will be run by Alexis Leaman, a special education teacher, and Lake Downham, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer and life-long surfer, both of whom reside in the area.

If you want to get an idea what Best Day is all about you’ve got to watch the video. It brought tears to my eyes to see what these people are doing for the kids. Equipment was donated by Ride A Wave. A starter crew of twelve volunteers from Ride A Wave is coming in from California (most at their own expense) to help man the events and train the rest of the volunteers. Area residents are encouraged to volunteer by going to the Best Day website and clicking on the Get Involved - Volunteer link. If you aren’t in the area but would like to help you can make a donation on the website. These programs are free for all special needs children and they aren’t cheap to keep going.

This is by far the best news I’ve heard today. I think it’s awesome what Best Day is trying to do here. I hope the first beach day is a huge success and the kids have a lot of fun.  I hope the time at the beach does turn out to be “the best day” for all of the families.

The theme for this week’s Heads or Tails meme is anything that begins with the letter O. The very first thing that comes to my mind when I think of the letter O is Oz. Dr Mehmet Oz, who’s often a guest on the Oprah show. He can be pretty funny. Who else can do a whole segment on poop? One of the things that has made me laugh the hardest was when Dr Oz did an Oprah show just for men. That’s why he sticks in my mind, because he cracks me up.

Alicia’s law passed

I want to Share Some Good Stuff this week pertaining to graduations. For the last few weeks around the country schools have held their graduations. As covered in the Daily Record, recently Governor Corzine( of NJ, where I live) passed Alicia’s Law (S.442), making it effective immediately. Alicia’s Law, for those unfamiliar, states that special education students have the right to participate in graduation ceremonies with their classmates even though they may not have yet completed high school. This law stems from attention given to the story of a Hanover Park student named Alicia Vitiello from Northern New Jersey. Special ed students are entitled to education until age 21. Although their daughter would not yet be graduating, Alicia’s parents wanted their daughter to be able to walk with the students she’d gone to school with for as many as twelve years at the graduation ceremony. The state had recommended Alicia be allowed to walk but her school district denied the request. The story got lots of attention here in Jersey and across the country in 2006-07. A member of the President Bush’s staff at the White House even made his support known. In 2007 Alicia was allowed to walk with her classmates. Now, other students will have the opportunity if they choose. Thanks to Governor Corzine, the NJ Department of Education and all of the legislators, advocates and families who fought for this. Our children deserve the right to have this memory.
