Measuring popularity with cell phone usage

RB, TJ and I spent a lot of time talking about a bunch of things last night after dinner. One of those things was cell phones, and how they’re sort of taken for granted now. He’s constantly getting text messages and phone calls at home. I made sure our plan allowed for unlimited text messaging so I wouldn’t be surprised with a giant bill. His phone usage time is the highest of the three of us but not unreasonable. He asked why I didn’t use it more at home. I explained that I have a land line for that and that I consider my cell phone for emergencies or to reach me when I’m not home. I also pointed out that I had Nextel until two years ago and I never got a signal in the house so I couldn’t use the phone. That has changed now that I have Verizon and the cell tower’s not too far away but I guess old habits die hard. Do you think cell phone usage is a measure of popularity?

Blogging friendships and a message of thanks

Isn’t amazing that you can meet people online that you’ve never met in real life and still know they’re a real friend? I’ve enjoyed making new friends since I started blogging. Some of my online friends are better then my real life friends. Actually, most of my real life friends don’t read my blog so they don’t usually know what’s in it. On the other hand, I have some online friends that I know always read what I have to say so they know what’s going on with me both blog wise and personally.

I would like to let my blogging friend Karen know how much I appreciate her friendship. Karen blogs at The Pond, Winding Threads, My Road and My Opinion Counts. Karen reads, she comments, she even plays my food meme which I’ve been late for for over a month now. She never asks for anything in return. She emailed me the other day just because she’d been wondering how I was feeling. I’ve been in a really big funk lately and haven’t been able to find my Christmas spirit. I was so touched to read her email that she’d been thinking about me that it actually brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Karen, I really appreciate it.

If you’ve got a good friend that you only know online that you appreciate, take a moment to let them know today.

New phone friend

My twelve year old has a phone friend. He discovered that his friend has a cousin that’s around the same age who he has a lot in common with. He’s supposed to meet her next weekend. Already they’re texting each other and talking on the phone. He flipped open his cell phone last night to show me a picture of the girl that she’d sent him. She was cute but looked a bit, um, developed. (I’m now thinking about never letting him out again.) I asked him why he had her picture if they’d never met and he told me it was because they’d exchanged. He then showed me a bunch of other pictures, apparently all of the kids exchanged them. At this rate he’s going to use up all of the space on his phone with all of these pictures. He’s got enough that if it was the old computer he was using he’d be needing some more dell memory.
