Speaking of bargains

I almost forgot to mention in my post on bargains. I’ve blogged about this on Cats and Coupons but I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it here. I’m talking about computer and tech purchases. For more than eleven years I paid only cost on all computer and tech products, because I worked for a worldwide mail order retailer. Since then I refuse to pay full price for any computer or tech related purchase, particularly cables (such as CAT5e and usb). I always do my research on these and they are almost always cheaper online.

I love a good bargain!

I am not a big shopper. Shopper in the sense of enjoying going to stores and malls. That requires money we just don’t have. When I need to buy something, whether it be for us, for the house or for someone else, I always do one of two things and sometimes both. The first thing I do is research my pricing. This requires time. I start by finding out what I think I should pay for it. I do this by surfing the web. I’ve been known to go twenty pages deep in Google looking for the best prices. Then I wait a while and watch to see what happens to pricing. I almost never buy in a hurry or on an impulse. If it’s something new that I want I also tell my Mom, the greatest bargain hunter of all time. She knows when and where to find the best sales. She actually stalks the sales at Kohls and knows when the next scheduled markdowns will take place. She’s been known to go from location to location of a store to pick up different things. It is truly amazing what she can do.

The best bargain I have gotten in the last couple of years was my last coffee machine, which I loved - $35 at Kohls, reduced from $99, thanks to Mom. The best bargain I ever got was on my truck. My truck cost about $8,000 less where I bought it than it cost here at home. It doesn’t sound so strange to shop for a car while on vacation now, does it?

When I’m shopping online for something the first thing I do is find the best price I can. Then I start looking for coupons and discount codes. Thanks to the Parent Bloggers Network, I have learned about a new place to look for coupons and deals. It’s the site Couponers.com. Couponers.com allows users to search by store, category and tag. Their site is constantly updated to make the site user friendly as well as include new deals. Users have the ability to also mark whether a deal worked for them or not. So, if you’re a bargain hunter, check out Couponers.com next time you’re hunting.

Find Zenni, find Zen

I can’t see anything without my glasses or contact lenses. I am serious, I am pretty close to legally blind. I was about nine when I got my first pair of glasses and the first time I went bowling after getting them I said “look, they put stripes on the bowling pins!”. Because of my prescription, eyeglasses have always been expensive for me. I’ve always thought it was awful what these optical stores and vision centers charge for a pair of glasses, any pair of glasses, even ugly ones.I recently learned about ZenniOptical.com. They manufacture and sell their own brand of frames, with prices starting at only $8. I looked for a catch and couldn’t find one. Their selection is huge. They offer inexpensive upgrades that the other places charge a small fortune for like photochromic lenses, anti reflective glare and sunglass tint. The anti scratch coating is free.Their shipping is a reasonable $4.95 no matter how many pair you order. What usually costs me about $100 I can now get from Zenni for under $20.

I always thought getting glasses for me was crazy expensive until we priced progressives for my husband. The lowest price we found was just over $250 at a local optical center. When I learned about Zenni I couldn’t believe that they could put together almost the same pair that we’d priced for my hubby for under $70!

ZenniOptical has been mentioned on the radio and on television, on shows like Fox News and The Clark Howard Show, because people just can’t believe how affordable their eyeglasses are. If you or someone in your family wears glasses you can’t afford not to check out Zenni, unless you like spending more than you need to.
