The 2012 Summer Olympics will be underway soon, in July. The Summer Olympics contains one of my favorite sports – swimming. I’m really looking forward to watching. Competitive swimming, and all of the other sports, require a lot of time, hard work and dedication. As someone who swam competitively for a number of years, I cannot imagine how hard it must be training while also being a parent.

Babies work hard ever day to grow and do new things. Think about it, they crawl, climb, roll, walk, run and more. For developing, every day is pretty much like the Olympics for them. To celebrate this unique spirit of play, Pampers recently launched its Limited Edition “USA” diapers and wipes designs, and has partnered with two-time Olympic Games Gold Medalist (Beach Volleyball) and Team USA Hopeful, Kerri Walsh (www.kerriwalsh.com) and her family, including husband, Casey Jennings, and sons, Joseph (age 2) and Sundance (age 1), as they make their way to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The diapers have a USA logo with a red, white and blue design and come in Cruiser sizes 3 through 5. Pampers is also offering Limited Edition Baby Wipes, with a similar red, white and blue design. These Limited Edition products will be in select stores nationwide, while supplies last.

Also, Pampers is offering the Pampers Team USA Sweepstakes on their Facebook page. Each week until August 12 Pampers will be giving away a prize pack consisting of one month’s supply of Pampers Limited Edition “USA” diapers and wipes as well as a souvenir volleyball signed by Kerri Walsh.Pampers also just concluded a portion of the sweeps where the winner received a grand prize trip for a family of four to attend the London 2012 Olympic Games and attend the first ever Pampers Playground event alongside Team USA Hopeful, Kerri Walsh, and her husband and sons.

In addition to the ‘Team USA Sweeps’ on Facebook, those wishing to celebrate the spirit of play at home are also encouraged to visit the Pampers Playground starting April 16th, a newly launched interactive platform on the Pampers Web site (www.pampers.com/play) encouraging parents and caretakers to share all the ways babies love to play. Within the Pampers Playground, there are three sections for parents and little ones to explore together:

· The Picnic Table gives parents the chance to upload and share photos and videos of all of the different ways their baby likes to play.

· The Toy Box provides visitors with fun tools and games to help baby play each and every day including an interactive and original storybook.

· The Park Bench offers articles detailing the importance of play for little ones.

But it doesn’t stop there. P&G – the parent company of Pampers – will showcase their heartfelt “Thank you, Mom” campaign at the London 2012 Olympic Games recognizing the incredible role that mothers play in the lives of their children. As part of this of this inspiring campaign, P&G plans to raise $5 million to help establish and sustain youth sport programs around the world. A portion of sales and donations for the company’s leadership brands including Pampers®, Tide®, Gillette®, and Pantene®, will help those who moms care about the most… children.

Author: Barbara Arrowsmith Young

Hardcover: 288 pages

Publisher: Free Press (May 1, 2012)

Language: English

ISBN-10: 1451607938

ISBN-13: 978-1451607932

Barbara Arrowsmith-Young was born with severe learning disabilities that caused teachers to label her slow, stubborn—or worse. As a child, she read and wrote everything backward, struggled to process concepts in language, continually got lost, and was physically uncoordinated. She could make no sense of an analogue clock. But by relying on her formidable memory and iron will, she made her way to graduate school, where she chanced upon research that inspired her to invent cognitive exercises to “fix” her own brain. The Woman Who Changed Her Brain interweaves her personal tale with riveting case histories from her more than thirty years of working with both children and adults.

Recent discoveries in neuroscience have conclusively demonstrated that, by engaging in certain mental tasks or activities, we actually change the structure of our brains—from the cells themselves to the connections between cells. The capability of nerve cells to change is known as neuroplasticity, and Arrowsmith-Young has been putting it into practice for decades. With great inventiveness, after combining two lines of research, Barbara developed unusual cognitive calisthenics that radically increased the functioning of her weakened brain areas to normal and, in some areas, even above-normal levels. She drew on her intellectual strengths to determine what types of drills were required to target the specific nature of her learning problems, and she managed to conquer her cognitive deficits. Starting in the late 1970s, she has continued to expand and refine these exercises, which have benefited thousands of individuals. Barbara founded Arrowsmith School in Toronto in 1980 and then the Arrowsmith Program to train teachers and to implement this highly effective methodology in schools all over North America. Her work is revealed as one of the first examples of neuroplasticity’s extensive and practical application. The idea that self-improvement can happen in the brain has now caught fire.

The Woman Who Changed Her Brain powerfully and poignantly illustrates how the lives of children and adults struggling with learning disorders can be dramatically transformed. This remarkable book by a brilliant pathbreaker deepens our understanding of how the brain works and of the brain’s profound impact on how we participate in the world. Our brains shape us, but this book offers clear and hopeful evidence of the corollary: we can shape our brains.
