Recently I was offered the opportunity to try Mr Chewy, an online pet food retailer.

ABOUT MR CHEWY

We asked ourselves: Can we create a household brand and sustainable business that will allow us to pursue our passion for helping animals? From that question, Mr. Chewy is born.

Mr. Chewy delivers pet happiness by conveniently shipping 70+ brands of pet food and stuff while ensuring at-risk animals’ lives are improved across the planet.

MY THOUGHTS

I have two cats. We go through about 30 – 40 pounds of cat litter each week. I enjoy grocery shopping but I do not enjoy buying cat litter. Why? That’s easy. To buy a large box or bag of cat litter is exhausting for me. I stand in front of the product I’m going to buy. Let’s say it’s a 28 pound box, for this example. I remove the 28 pound box from the shelf. I hist that 28 pound box into my shopping cart. I get to the register. I hoist the 28 pound box up onto the conveyor belt. The cashier scans it. I lift the 28 pound box back up again and drop it into the cart. I go out to the car (after paying of course). I hoist that 28 pound box out of the shopping cart and into the car. I get home. I hoist the 28 pound box out of the cat and lug it into the house. It is the last item I take out of the car, because after I drag it inside I am sore, my lungs hurt and I am out of breath.

The hardest thing about ordering was deciding what it was I wanted to order. Mr Chewy carries over 70 brands of pet food and pet related items including dog food, cat food, cat litter, dog treats, cat treats, flea and tick products and housebreaking items. The site is easy to use. Products are broken down into category, and then by brand within the category. After that you can further narrow down the selection of products by searching things like food type (dry vs canned), lifestage and specialty (organic, hairball, etc). Product descriptions contain a photo, something that’s helpful to me since I always buy the same thing and know it by sight. After all, there are so many brands, and so many varieties within some of the brands, things start sounding the same and you don’t want to bring the wrong food home and have your pet either not eat it or possibly even worse, eat it and have it run amuck in their digestive system because it isn’t what they’re used to. I priced the cat food that we use as well as several brands of cat litter that we use. The cat food cost a bit more then I pay in the store. I priced some of the different cat litters that we use as well, these cost $4 to $5 dollars more per box to buy from Mr Chewy. That being said, Mr Chewy offers free shipping for orders of $49 or more. I ordered three 28 pound boxes of cat litter from Mr Chewy on 8:30 pm on a Wednesday night.I received an email confirming my order almost immediately. On Thursday I received an email notifying me that my order had shipped, complete with delivery carrier and tracking numbers. On Friday I received my order. That’s some fast service! I’d still be lugging the boxes out of the car. Well not really, but you get the point.

The boxes were delivered to my door. No lifting! No carrying! Yay!

The boxes were well packed.

The contents of the boxes had arrived intact and the product looked exactly like the ones that I buy in the store.

Mr Chewy allows you to order the items you want when you want to, from the convenience of your home. So you could do it in your pjs, which you probably wouldn’t wear when you go to the grocery store. Just saying. Home delivery would be great for all sorts of people including those that can’t or don’t drive, those who can’t or shouldn’t be carrying heavy items, those who live a good distance from the store, and those who live in areas with extreme weather in the winter. The site would be perfect for those that have several pets whose food has to be bought from several stores, the variety of brands at Mr Chewy is pretty large so this could really save you some time and gas money. They also offer a program that allows you to schedule the delivery of your orders on a regular basis. That’s a great option for those that know how much food they go through and when they need it, as well as a great option for those who don’t notice when they’re out of something until after the fact.

Mr Chewy offers a neat referral program. If you refer a friend to them, your friend will receive 10% off of their first order PLUS a $10 donation will be made to one of three animal charities that Mr Chewy supports.
