VIDEO GAME REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY – Get Fit With Mel B Fitness Game For PS3 Move

Get Fit With Mel B PS3 Box

I’ve finally lost most of the weight it took me a quarter of a century to gain. Now I have to focus on getting myself fit again. It’s hard to believe that I used to swim competitively for 2-4 hours per day. I have a gym membership, but to be blunt about it, going to the gym is a big pain in my butt. If I can figure out where to fit it into my schedule, then I have to figure out what I’m doing with CJ. Sure, they have childcare, but I don’t trust he’ll be ok there. So, when I was offered the opportunity to check out Get Fit With Mel B, I jumped (not quite literally) at the chance.

ABOUT GET FIT WITH MEL B

Exercise routines are often more effective when you’re partnered with an inspiring coach. In Get Fit with Mel B, PlayStation Move puts you right in the program and on screen next to Spice Girl and fitness expert Mel B. As you work out together, she delivers positive feedback, encouragement and real-time guidance on your performance.

Each user’s experience is structured to meet their individual needs: with over 25 different goals to choose from, Get Fit with Mel B delivers a custom workout program and a daily menu plan to ensure that program users are on the right track to achieving their goals. Additionally, the program features social networking integration that allows users to share their workout results and accomplishments with their friends via Facebook.

“Get Fit with Mel B offers a cutting-edge and highly effective fitness experience for less than the cost of a gym membership.” said Deep Silver Chief Operating Officer Geoff Mulligan. “There’s never been a combination of technology and passion for fitness like this before. This is as close as you’re going to get to having a personal trainer in your own home. We’re incredibly proud that Get Fit with Mel B is the first fitness title available for the PlayStation Move platform and that critics are already hailing it as the best option for getting fit with an interactive program.”

Get Fit with Mel B has shipped to retailers with an impressive level of early critical acclaim. Multiple review scores of 90% have praised the program for its individualized workouts, unparalleled graphics and replayability and tremendous value as an in-home personal trainer.

MY THOUGHTS

Me exercising with Get Fit With Mel B

I’ve been working out with Get Fit With Mel B every other day for several weeks now. I have liked the game since day one and haven’t tired of it yet. The game is a lot of fun and very interactive. The game itself is easy to use. When you first connect it to the PS3 Move system it will calibrate the camera to your body. It also asks you personal questions about your body (type, height and weight), your diet and your goals. Your answers, including what scenery you prefer, will help build your exercise program. Get Fit With Mel B offers different kinds of workouts including dance, kickboxing, cardio and step aerobics.

When you’re playing, Mel B appears on the left side of your screen as your trainer while you appear on the right. Yes that’s right, I said you. The camera puts you (and what you’re doing) on screen. I like this feature because it allows me to compare what I’m doing with what Mel’s doing and see where I’m going wrong. Both you and Mel have a counter, so you’ll know how far along you are and how good of a job you’re doing keeping up with her pace. There’s a brief warmup and cooldown on each end of a workout. Mel offers lots of encouragement throughout the workouts and as you reach different benchmarks you earn trophies. At the end of an exercise you’re told how many calories you’ve burned. At the end of a workout you’re shown a graph of the day’s performance. One of my favorite things about this game is that it’s very flexible. You can do a routine put together by the game, you can do individual exercises, or you can do challenges. All of this kept the game, and therefore the exercise, fresh and interesting. The only feature I found missing and would love to see added is the ability to add a completely custom workout, meaning being able to choose exercises from all of the different exercise categories instead of just one. There’s a Diet and Meal Planning section of the game. It offers 140 recipes. The two things I found missing in this area were the amount of calories in each dish and the total cook and prep time for each dish. If they added those in it would be most helpful. I recommend this game to anyone with a PS3 Move system that would like to start exercising. It’s flexible that it won’t kill the beginner and it will ramp up with you to grow more challenging.
