Energizer Change Your Clock Change Your Battery
Who couldn’t use an extra hour of sleep? I know that I could. That extra hour is the reason I don’t mind the fall time change for daylight savings time. I always feel so much more rested, it’s unbelievable. The time change this year is November 6 – tomorrow night. Energizer and the  International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) are reminding people to take a simple step to help protect themselves and their families – change the batteries in the smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in the house.
The Change Your Clock Change Your Battery seeks to educate people about the dangers of home fires. Thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes without working smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate.* Those are some scary stats. When I thunk of smoke alarms I always think of the Friends episode where the smoke alarm won’t stop going off so Phoebe tries to destroy it. Many people laughed, including myself. Truth is, the importance of a working smoke detector is serious, and something many of us don’t keep in mind. I fully admit that I have forgotten to change the battery in the smoke alarm at times, so reminders like this are very helpful to me.
Right now Energizer is inviting parents across the country to join the Energizer Bunny® Brigade on Facebook (www.facebook.com/energizerbunny). Those that join will receive opportunities to win free smoke alarms and batteries for their home, or a grand prize of a home fire safety makeover.
In some communities the fire departments give free batteries to the members of the community as a result of the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program. Over the past 22 years, Energizer has donated more than four million batteries to local fire departments. Why not be a part of an important campaign such as the Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery program? Join the energizer Bunny Brigade and pledge to change your smoke alarm batteries when you change your clocks, as well as create/update your family escape plan.
