I have a thing for comforters. I love them. For years I’ve been buying comforters when I found patterns I liked at a good price. It seemed like the easiest way to change the look of the room. For twenty years we’ve been in a queen size or king size bed, the majority of them in a king. I always bought king comforters because I liked the way they draped better. But man those comforters are huge! They really take up some space. I have them all over the house – one folded at the bottom of our bed and one actually on the bed, some in our one and only tiny linen closet, some in CJ’s closet, some under my bed, one in the hope chest and two in the back hall. They’re out of control. I had to stop buying them because I ran out of places to put them. Recently I found a great alternative to buying new comforters, courtesy of ShopBedding.com.

I received a King Size 300 Thread Count Sateen Stripe Duvet Cover in Brown.
What’s a duvet cover, you may ask? A duvet cover is a comforter cover. It can protect them or it can give them a whole new look.
Here’s an old brown plaid comforter.
To use the duvet cover, you lay the comforter flat and slide it into the duvet cover, sort of like a big envelope. The duvet cover has buttons that close to give things a finished look and hold the comforter in place.
Once the comforter is inside the duvet cover you proceed as though you’re using a regular comforter.
Now maybe at this point you’re really doubting the difference in size. Here’s a folded duvet cover next to a folded comforter.
That’s a BIG difference in size! Imagine how much easier it would be to store five, ten or however many duvet covers, rather than that number of comforters! And, for those of you with smaller washing machines, no more trips to the laundromat to wash your comforters! Despite it’s super soft, smooth and elegant sateen finish, the duvet cover is machine washable right there in your own home.
I am super pleased with the quality and appearance of the duvet cover we received. The King Size 300 Thread Count Sateen Stripe Duvet Cover shown here currently retails for $69.99 at shopbedding.com. Other sizes and patterns of duvet covers are available for other prices. They also carry sheets, bed skirts, pillow shams, mattress covers, pillows and more in a variety of colors and patterns, as well as different materials including satin, silk, bamboo and cotton.
