While at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration I had the privilege of hearing Maxine Clark speak. Maxine is the founder of Build-A-Bear. After listening to her it was easy to understand how Build-A-Bear has grown to be so successful. Obviously I wasn’t able to get everything down but here are bullets on some of the great points that I took away from Maxine’s speech.

  • Maxine was inspired to create Build-A-Bear after being unable to find a beanie baby while shopping with her childhood friend. Her friend suggested they make them and that was the beginning of Build-A-Bear.
  • Twitter created for everyone. It consists of endless questions and sharing of knowledge.
  • Powerful brands attract other powerful brands.
  • More than 40% of women online are mothers with children under age 18.
  • The internet is making the world a smaller place.
  • Each guest should feel unique, special, valued, creating a connection you want to keep for a long time to come. Guests make us who we are.
  • Connecting with the customers through social media is the fun part. It doesn’t feel like work, it keeps you connected with the customer.
  • Every business partnership can be enhanced through better collaboration. When two partners work together they can come up with something 10 times more powerful than they could accomplish alone.

Maxine blogs at Musings From Maxine Clark and is on Twitter @Chiefexecbear. She’s also on buildabearville.com with the name bearylucky.

Disclosure – I paid a nominal fee to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration in Walt Disney World. Included in the conference fee was my room at the Polynesian Resort, Park Hopper tickets, the conference sessions and most meals. As always my opinions are my own, and I have given you my honest opinion.
