The View – Clay, Gay, Mel, Bret, Hungry Girl, Hungry Whoopi And Selfish Only Children

I am so behind this week from doctors appointments.  Plus RB’s worked a couple of evenings so there’s been a battle for the television. As a result, I’m just catching up on my shows.  The guest cohost for 07/13/10 Tuesday’s episode was Clay Aiken, who’s getting ready to go out on tour with Ruben Studdard.

What was that baggy labcoat/shirt thing Whoopi wore? Sherri looked lovely yet “well endowed” in her blue. I thought the burgundy that Elisabeth was wearing didn’t suit her especially well. Joy was back in black, as it were.

George Steinbrenner’s death was the lead new item. Whoopi reminded us that people didn’t like him all of the time but who like anybody all of the time. Excellent point and I agree.

The first hot topic of discussion was more of Mel’s taped phone conversations with his girlfriend. The discussion about his behavior started with speculation that he won’t work again. It then turned to religion and redemption. Whoopi let a “bad” word escape. Do you think Mel’s behavior can be redeemed? How do you think this will affect his career? I think it might affect its short term but long term people forget things and he’ll still get work.

The next hot topic up was the military’s survey of troops asking how soldiers would feel if they had to shower with homosexuals if the “don’t ask, don’t tell” rule was repealed. Clay feels that if the law is repealed then all that will be effected is the amount of people willing to die for this country. He shared the fact that his brother, a Marine, is not thrilled with the idea of repealing the rule.

The next hot topic was that a survey was done to disprove the myth that only children are more selfish. Almost everyone, except Sherri, did not find that only children are selfish. I agree with them, having seen both only and not only children be selfish.  I do think that they don’t always play well with others. Clay got beeped when he said “some kids are a**holes” and everyone got a kick out of that. Sherri said she was raised with the “do as I say not as I do” approach. She thinks that parents are tired because they’re trying to do and explain more today, rather than back in the day where they just said “because I said so”. Do you think only children are more selfish or less social than children with siblings?

Note of interest. Sherri fell in a restaurant and learned that a Twitter follower was in the restaurant and tweeted about it before coming over to help.

Bret Michaels made a guest appearance. He looked great and sounded so positive and energetic since having a brain hemorrhage in April. He said the scariest moment for him was when he heard doctors ask his wife if he had children and to bring them to the hospital. He won the Celebrity Apprentice. He’s just released a new album, Custom Built. He sang a song from the album called Nothin To Lose. He sounded great and so did the song. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. He’s going to be being considered as Simon’s replacement judging American Idol, I look forward to seeing his outlook on the contestants.

Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien was the final guest. Lisa showed how to make lower fat and calorie versions of popular snacks from her book Hungry Girl Happy hour. The snacks included pigs in a blanket (Whoppi came out and snagged a snacks), dip, (Whoppi came out and snagged the rest of the pigs in a blanket) potstickers, tartlets (Whoopi came out again and snagged the potstickers) and two alcoholic beverages. Whoopi just cracked me up with the food.

I enjoy the artt of Gibson–his acting, directing, producing. History redeemed Nixon a leader, a man who should have been an exemplary header but then Watergate. Gibson is human not devine. We ALL have our secrets. Maybe we are just smarter and don’t allow them to be taped. His private life is that unless it involves me. Yes I am a fan. He isn’t Rockerfeller, a Kennedy, etc. He is allowed feet of clay.

Ruben’s last name is STUDDARD-no matter how Whoopie pronounces it! LOL And..there has been no official word on who will replace Simon; and that means Bret has NOT been named his successor. Clay looked great on the show-just wish they had given him more to say and do. Why do they even bother with a co-host (or more if only 2 of the gals are there)??? The co-host(s) usually has nothing to do but sit there and can very rarely get a word in. Geesh. Clay is very funny, witty and speaks quite eloquently. Wish the gals gave him a chance.

I agree, the cohosts are frequently underutilized. I must have misunderstood about Bret taking Simon’s spot. Off to add an edit to my post.

Excellent recap. Ruben’s last name is Studdard, not Stoddard. Should be an awesome tour.
