One Of The Things I Love About Mac – Screenshots
i love taking screen captures, or screenshots, on a Mac.
On my Windows computer to get a picture of something on a screen I had to go through several steps. First I’d have to do a screen capture, then I had to paste it into an app. Then I’d have to edit the screenshot to cut out everything but the image I wanted.
On a Mac I can get a screen capture or a screenshot with one step. If I press shift-command-3 the computer captures an image of my entire display and places it on my desktop. Here’s an example of my desktop with iTunes open.

If I press shift-command-4 the computer gives me crosshairs, allowing me to select only the portion of the screen that I want a picture of, which in turn gets placed on the desktop. Here’s a picture of just a portion of the iTunes library contents, taken with one click.

I work with a mac but love PCs. Sure the mac places the picture in a file and all but that’s something that can be replicated easily in the windows world, along with windows with variable transparency and other stuff. You just gave me my next software project. Thanks for this awesome post.
I know what you mean regarding a Windows PC not having the upper hand when it comes to taking screen captures. It appears that a Mac owns on this feature, no doubt.
for screen capture I prefer Macvide ScrenCap (macvide.com)
It makes me love you a little bit that you’ve got Disturbed right above Dora the Explorer in the music list.
What kind of Mac do you have? I’ve been thinking about changing from a PC to a Mac for a while…
Evil Woman, huh?
