SYNOPSIS
A fairy tale character who is about to flunk out of fairy tale school, Jack must perform a heroic deed by Monday or fail miserably, just like his father before him. Anxious to make good, Jack sells his C.O.W. (Computer of Wonder) for a handful of magic beans and a mysterious book that records his adventures as he’s having them. Accompanied by his sidekick Grayson — a goose who ate a bean and underwent an amazing transformation — Jack climbs the magic beanstalk to recover the fabled Harp of Destiny from the evil Giant who lives in the sky. Helping Jack on his perilous quest is the spunky Jillian, a fearless young girl whom Jack meets on his journey — and who just may have a hidden agenda…
You’re probably familiar with the tale of Jack And The Beanstalk. The 2010 release of this movie is an updated version of the story we all know and love. The movie is set in a small town where the children go to fairy tale school. Jack (Colin Ford) aspires to be a hero but sadly, is failing. He is teased by his teacher (Christopher Lloyd) that he will never be a hero, just as his father failed to be a hero. He decides he wants to do something selfless so he sells his COW (handheld computer) at the pawn shop in town. In exchange for the expensive COW he gets three beans. He goes home to find that his mother (Katey Sagal) has lost her job and needs him to sell his COW. He returns to the pawn shop to discover it is not there and has been replaced by a book shop run by the same man (Wallace Shawn) who ran the pawn shop. He gets a book about a quest to rescue the Harp Of Destiny. Upon leaving the book shop he notices the pages are blank. He turns to go back into the book shop and it is closed. Jack returns home and feeling badly, throws the beans out the window. The next morning he awakes to find a giant beanstalk, which he climbs along with his friend Grayson the Goose (Gilbert Gottfried). The movie continues to document his quest to find and rescue the Harp Of Destiny, which is being held by the Giant (voice of James Earl Jones). The quest is written, and at times rewritten, as he goes along – the blank pages are filled in after things happen. Along the way he encounters a sentry guard (Chevy Chase) that only speaks in opposites and pillow fighting turtles, fought off by new friend Jillian (Chloe Moretz). Will he find and rescue the Harp? What will happen when he encounters the Giant? Will he learn Jillian’s secret? To find out the answers to these questions you’ll just have to watch the movie.
Jack And The Beanstalk is a great family movie that has no sex, nudity or foul language. Jack and the Beanstalk was awarded 4 out of 5 Doves by the Dove Foundation.

I would like to see Hansel and Gretel as a movie!
One of my favorites that I’d like to see be made into a movie is the Japanese fairy tale The tale of the Fox, the Monk, and the King of All Night’s Dreaming. It was retold as a graphic novel (basically a very long comic book) by Neil Gaiman.
You can find the original, along with many more stories in Yei Theodora Ozaki’s “Old Japanese Fairy Tales.
