2010 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE – Disney Mickey Mote
We love all things Disney in our family. It’s a love and appreciation instilled in me by my parents, and one that has passed on through the generations. I have DVDs of most Disney animated movies as well as CJ’s favorite television series such as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Handy Manny. Some new DVDs have been released with an all new Mickey Mote, a child friendly remote that will control the DVDs.

The new “Mickey Mote” is a child-friendly handheld remote control, shaped like Mickey ears, that will take children’s viewing experience to a whole new level by providing an engaging interaction with their favorite Disney characters. How It Works:
The Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes Discovery Mode, the interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD! All parents have to do is program the remote control – there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD- and select the Discovery Mode feature on the menu screen. Within minutes, kids will be easily responding to questions, throughout the story, about scenes they just watched (such as “What color is Goofy’s hat?”) by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device — a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses. Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.

OUR THOUGHTS
I think the Mickey Mote is great. It allows my son to be a bit more independent and control what’s happening on the DVD. The remote is bright (as in not easy to lose) and sturdy. It’s big chunky buttons are easy for little fingers to use. the Mickey Mote is compatible with any Discovery Mode enhanced DVD. The remote has four directional arrows (blue, green, yellow and orange) to control operations. The Mickey Mote is suggested for ages 2-5 but I believe that could be widened. For instance my 11 year old loves it and uses it well, it could be very useful with other children with developmental delays. We received two DVDS that work with the Mickey Mote – Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey’s Number Roundup and Handy Manny: Big Construction Job. CJ used the remote with no problem and seemed to really enjoy the Discovery Mode.
