Words Move Me - Sony Reader Giveaway

What moves you?
The two things that move me the most are my children and knowledge. Knowledge takes many forms and my favorite form, by far, is the English language. That’s right - words. I love words. To me, words are interesting. They form knowledge. And you know the old saying - knowledge is power.
I’ve always loved words. The daughter of a 7th grade English teacher, I learned to read before I was 4 and have loved it ever since. As a teenager, when I was supposed to be delivering my newspaper route I
could be found sitting on a corner reading a book instead. Seriously. It was tough for my Mom to yell at me because I wasn’t getting into trouble - I was reading. You can’t get mad at someone for reading, right. Reading was my escape from everything back then. I could fall into a book and disappear for hours, not putting it down until I’d finished (or sometimes until it was too dark outside). To this day one of my favorite activities is to curl on on the couch with a book with a cup of coffee and read.
Sony has created Words Move Me to foster interest and interaction in words between readers all around the world. Readers can share their feelings via widgets. Other readers can search by emotions to find people with like interests. It’s pretty cool. My widget is below.
Sony and I are wondering what moves you. So let’s talk about that.

My favorite book is “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Piccoult. (BTW_I did not like the movie b/c it was not very true to the book.). I like this book because it takes the time to explore relationships within families. Between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and mostly sister to sister. This book was so well written! Twists and turns that were unexpected. I loved this book and the characters!

My favorite book is the Bible! It’s the same, yesterday, today and forever, it doesn’t change. I remember when I was little going loving the Word of God and knew I had to have him in my life. I have memories of being in Bible class studying the Word and just falling in love with the Author of the Bible and devouring His Word! There’s absolutely nothing like it.
I’ve been wanting a Sony Reader!! This is a wonderful chance to win one, thanks! Hope to win.

My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, not so much because of the book itself (although it is an excellent book), but because of what the whole Harry Potter series has meant to me and my family.
My middle daughter (now 13) is dyslexic. When she was 9 she discovered the Harry Potter series on cassette, and started listening constantly. She soon got her older sister and younger brother listening. Every night at bedtime them would listen to the books as they fell asleep, trading cassettes and cds back and forth between their rooms. She decide she wanted to read the books despite their daunting size, and this motivation helped her make it through the hours of drill and hard work it took to get her reading fluently. Before she discovered Harry Potter she didn’t have any interest in books at all. Finally by 11 she was reading fluently.
When Deathly Hallows was released we all stayed up until midnight, and went to the local store to buy a copy. We came home and read the first two chapters together, until I insisted the kids go to bed. We finished the book in marathon reading sessions over the next two days, with each of the kids, including my dyslexic daughter, taking turns reading out loud. So for us this book was a great family bonding experience, and something I know the kids will always remember and treasure. I am so glad all of my kids share my love of reading, and I know Harry Potter had a lot to do with that.

To this day, my favorite book remains “The Westing Game” by Ellen Raskin (I’m 32). I first read it as a middle reader (its intended audience) and was mesmerized by the individuals in a diverse cast of characters as well as the well-thought-out clues created to solve the ultimate mystery: Who Killed Sam Westing? I own several copies to this day and often give it out to friends and children. Although Ellen Raskin has passed on, her talented work lives on and I like to share it with new generations!!

We lived in the country and frequently the power was off in the winter due to storm conditions. One time, our family read aloud the whold series from Laura Ingles Wilder (Little House on the Praire, Little House in the Big Woods, etc).
Sharing the stories as a family is where my love of reading came from and I love passing to along to my grandchildren. They know we always read at grandmas and she always gives books for rewards.
My favorite book was My Friend Flika because my father suggested it and we often discussed it.
My favorite book so far in my life is Debbie Gould’s Infidelity. It was a book that I could not put down. I loved it!

My favorite book is call The Hunger Moon. It about how lives intertwine, how friends can come from the most unlikely places, and how family is more important than anything else. I found it at a thrift store one day and picked it up for one reason or another.
It’s memorable because it was a book that seemed to find me. The message it carried was exactly what I needed to find at the point in time.

My favorite book is “Emma” by Jane Austen. It is memorable because every time I read it I laugh about how similar I am to the main character. Emma has this urge to always be a matchmaker, and I’m the same way. Wonderfully enough, it has resulted in two of my great friends getting married.
Emma is also like me, in that she has a big mouth and speaks her mind. She often gets in trouble for being too blunt, and the wonderful Mr. Knightley is there to help silence her if she goes too far. Mr. Knightley reminds me of my husband, so their romance in the novel reminds me of my marriage. Emma is a great character, flawed (which I think is a good trait in a main character) but also very kind and giving. Reading “Emma” is always memorable. It takes me into a different world where I can dream and not worry about the stresses of life. “Emma” will forever be one of my favorite books to read!

My fave book is The memory keepers daughter. It has stuff that is my life as a child growing up
I love the VALIS trilogy by Philip K. Dick. Written near the end of his life, these three books tie together Dick’s synergistic view of religion and cosmic influences. I think the best, and saddest, is The Transmigration of Timothy Archer, which deals heavily with loss - loss of faith, loss of life, loss of happiness.
My favorite book of all time is Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. While I enjoyed the entire Odd Thomas series, the original is by far the best. Koontz takes you away to a world that’s familiar but is also “Odd” at the same time. Who else could make you fall in love with a quirky short-order cook who can see the dead?

I love A Confederacy of Dunces - it just transports to a strange world full of odd people
Another author I adore is Jennifer Crusie. All of her books are just excellent! My favorite is Fast Women. This book will have you laughing so hard you cry. About women who are kicked while they are down, they fight back and show those guys what they are really made of.
Fast Women grabs right with the first sentence:
“The man behind the cluttered desk looked like the devil, and Nell Dysart figured that was par for her course since she’d been going to hell for a year and a half anyway.”
It’s a feel good book with words you won’t forget!

I just finished S.K.I.R.T.S in the Boardroom and found it to be a wonderfully written book on women in the professional world with many insightful tips and a lot of enlightenment to focus. I think that this book should be a must-read for any up-and-coming woman in the professional setting.
