There are no conditional cooties
My son TJ won’t share certain things, not even with family. I’m mainly referring to glasses and bottles. If he’s thirsty and I offer him my bottle of water he won’t take it because he doesn’t want to share germs. RB and I have always thought that he was using his brain and was practicing good hygiene, even though at times it’s been a little over the top.
RB got a last minute sidejob today so we had a major change in plans. TJ’s friend had been scheduled to come over for the day and sleep over. Around 6 pm TJ asked me if I’d make some mac and cheese. I made a bowl of it and called the two boys into the kitchen. My son grabbed the bowl and started out of the kitchen. Not seeing a second bowl, I told him to make sure his friend got some. His answer was to tell me that they were brothers so they’d share the bowl.
I told RB about this and he was as surprised as I was. Not the part about them being brothers, but the part about TJ sharing the bowl. I took TJ aside and asked him about it. He told me sharing a bowl wasn’t the same as sharing a drink because there was no backwash. I listed to what he had to say and explained he should always be safe and careful. I explained there are no conditional cooties. I guess the germ factor won’t play as strongly as I thought when he starts dating. Damn!
