The Perfect Baby Handbook by Dale Hrabi
I love to read. My Mom loves to read and we often share books. I also work with a number of women who also enjoy reading who can be found all simultaneously reading a book or sharing a finished book. My Dad’s been trying to get my computer fixed for two days now so I haven’t been doing much on the computer. Instead I’ve been relaxing with RB and the boys and even started reading a new book.
The Perfect Baby Handbook by Dale Hrabi was officially released for sale two days ago. When I got pregnant with TJ I had no interest in parenting and baby handbooks because having helped raise my brothers I thought I knew all there was to know. It turns out that wasn’t quite the case, evident by my questions and even the occasional doubt that I was doing it wrong in the first few months after TJ was born. When I was contacted by Harper about this book and heard the title I wasn’t sure I’d be interested in reading it because I thought it was just another “how to” book. Thankfully I second guessed myself and accepted the opportunity.
“The Perfect Baby Handbook: A Guide for Excessively Motivated Parents” by Dale Hrabi is not another “how to” book. The book gives us a humorous look at the ideas of perfect babies and perfect parenting. The humor, wit and sarcasm allows the reader to see that perfection is a myth, that things are constantly changing and that you cannot prepare for the unknown. Had I seen a book like this I probably would have lightened up and not worried so much about doing everything right.
One of my favorite parts of the book is on finding a perfect baby name. The idea of naming a baby after a yacht, racehorse, Ikea item, or paint color was hysterical to me but what was even funnier what that I’d heard a number of the suggestions as real names. Another of my favorite sections is the one on placement of baby silverware in a formal dinner setting.
This book has been terrific light reading so far. If you’d like to see some excerpts or learn more about the book visit the author’s website at www.perfectbabyhandbook.com/. You can also check out some videos on Dale Hrabi’s YouTube channel.
