EA Sports Active - Fitness With No Balance Board Required For Fatties Like Me

As a member of Mom Bloggers Club, I was asked to consider how I plan to get fit this spring. Being one week post surgery today this is an especially important question for me. I have a new diet to follow but since I have a lot of weight to lose, I know it is more critical than ever that I exercise. But as a Mom that works full time outside of the home and part time within the home I don’t have a lot of time.

I’ll be honest, for months I really wanted to do the Wii Fit. I thought it would be great to help me get in shape and could be fun for the whole family. The thing is, I discovered that I’m too heavy for the balance board so I can’t use it. I have to say I was so disappointed to find this out. I’d read about all of the fun and success other bloggers were having using it and finding out that I couldn’t be a part of it because I was too fat actually hurt.

It will take time to lose the weight. Sure, it’d be nice if it came off overnight but I didn’t put it on overnight so I must be realistic. That means I’m still faced with the challenge of finding another way to exercise, preferably something at home to fit my family’s schedule and preferably something the whole family can use and enjoy.

I learned about EA Sports Active through the Mom Bloggers Club. Active is a home fitness program for the Wii. Kudos to EA Sports for designing a program that doesn’t require the use of the balance board, so everyone (even obese me) can use it. Active comes with a resistance band that you place on your leg. The band allows Active to provide you with feedback on your activities. Active contains more than 25 exercises and activities that target your body and cardiovascular health while mixing fitness with fun. There’s even a split screen option that allows exercise with a friend or family member. Active has a built in trainer to provide help and motivation, and a built in journal to track your progress. EA Sports Active will be released on May 19, 2009 and will sell for approximately $59.95. I have not personally tried the Active but I’d like to after reading about it and watching the videos.

My ultimate personal goal is to lose 200 pounds. More short term, I’d like to lose ten pounds per month. I hope to someday be able to want to go clothes shopping again. I hope to lose a couple of my chins. But more than those I hope to start feeling better and living better, for myself and for my family. I had surgery as a first step to regain my life and health. Exercising and getting fit will help me do that. My plan to get fit while the weight comes off consists of two things - to stay on the post surgery diet and to exercise. I have an exercise bike at home that I’ll be starting to ride every day once the surgeon clears me (hopefully next week). I’d also like to add the EA Sports Active into my fitness plan once it’s available and I have the money.

So what are you doing to get fit this spring?
