My brother (LB2) got engaged earlier this year and recently he and his fiancee decided to rent their own place. When I hear how much rent he was going to be paying I reiterated something I’ve told him for years – that he should buy instead of paying rent to make someone else rich. He told me that this apartment was in a brand new building that noone had ever lived in before and that things were exactly the way he wanted in it. I told him he should buy a fixer upper and renovate.
If you watch General Hospital on ABC’s New York channel 7 then you’ve probably seen the DirectBuy commercials that have aired recently. I have never been to a DirectBuy but I can see where the idea of saving thousands would be very appealing to anyone renovating or remodeling their home. It looks like they carry many of the more expensive items needed to remodel an older home or even outfit a new home including home improvement products, home furnishings, flooring, outdoor items and home accessories.
DirectBuy has locations in 35 states within the US and more in Canada. DirectBuy Mountain View has been recently added, for those of you in Northern California. I am intrigued by their advertising. I wonder how their prices would fare for a frugal shopper that buys discount already not designer shelf.
