Childrens Clothing – Are We Rushing Our Children To Grow Up?

I was out and about today looking at some children’s clothing. CJ needs some more long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts for the winter. Now he’s 10 years old but he’s very small. He’s only just gone into a size 8. Why is it that the nice, cute boys clothing stops at sizes 6 and 7? CJ likes things like Thomas The Train and cars. All the shirts I found were Transformers and similar things. The cute outfits stopped at size 7. And the underwear. We’re still fighting the potty fight, trying to get CJ to poop on the potty. He really liked his Thomas the Train underwear and we thought they sort of helped motivate him. Well unfortunately his size 6 underwear squeezed his “business” because he’d outgrown them. He’s not nearly as impressed by their replacements, more Transformers or some such thing. My Mom tells me that I have to let him grow up. I wonder instead why the rest of society is rushing their kids out of cute things. Are we rushing our children to grow up by dressing them in clothing that isn’t as young? Anybody else want to get in on this discussion?

I was just thinking the same thing this week! We went shopping for Halloween costumes, and all the cute ones stopped at 5. My kid has no interest in being a ninja or a monster. All he wanted was an animal costume, and there were none to be found in a size six.

I have no idea why society wants them to act all grown up before they need to be!

Mom says that you too were in a rush to grow up spurred on by your classmates and peers. Manufacturers marker what sells for profit. Educate the parents who should be making the choices instead of their kids who get what they want.

I know the feeling. Our toddler Kaydence, she’s only 2, yet she’s a very tall and heavy built girl wears a size 5/6 in girls. Cute, toddlerish stuff? Nope, none to be found. I have to dress my baby like a big girl and I hate it.

Girl, I know exactly how you feel! Little girls still have cute things in the big sizes, why rush the boys?

My daughter is 5 & my mom got her a pair of shorts & tank tops for summer. The tanks were fine, but the shorts! “We like short shorts!” comes to mind! Sheesh!

I totally agree! I have an 8yo daughter and just try to find something in that size that doesn’t scream “hoochie-mama” – shorts & sweats with “juicy” written across the bum, tops that are too short so belly buttons show, jeans that ride so low that she’d have plumbers-butt. She’d love to do cute barbie & other knickers too, but yes, they do stop at 6 or so – it’s a shame.

Gymboree, Lands End and Hannah Anderson are my favs for conservative, yet cute kiddo clothes.

    good luck finding some things.
