Bad drive

Two days ago I put my computer in stand by while I did some things around the house and ran some errands. I returned three hours later and turned the monitor back. I expected the computer to show my apps and behave normally but instead I saw a bunch of text on the screen. It looked like the bios information that flies by when a computer is booting up so that’s what I thought it was. Apparently not.

Last night I was doing some things around the house and turned the monitor off. A little under two hours later I turned it back on and saw that same message again. This time I looked at it and it told me that something is wrong with my hard drive and that I need to back up and replace the drive. Freaking marvelous! We really can’t afford to buy anything right now but I also need to keep the computer running.

I started shopping for hard drives. I checked websites for some large local stores and then I decided to check online stores as well. Knowing I can always find a good sale on Buy.com I went there first. I didn’t see any internal drives listed but there was a great deal on an external usb hard drive. The external drive is 750 gb, absolutely huge for someone like me. I’ll never fill all of that. The price of $96.99 is phenomenal and shipping is free. I’m going to check with my Dad (my tech support) if he’ll help me get the bad drive out and get things going again if I get this one.

Now it’s time for me to go back some more stuff up, just in case the current hard drive dies before I can make my purchase and we can get the bad one out and get the new system in place. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I learned my lesson about hard drives frying and losing my stuff. I now currently have a back up of my current HD socked away in a case which probably needs to be updated but since I just had to clean a buttload of trojans and malware off of this one I’m not going to update it to the most current lol I don’t need any remnants of those on that clean install and can just update the programs that I might not have to it if I need it.
