Who watches tv on their laptop?

As you may or may not know I bought myself a Macbook Pro 17 laptop earlier this year. I’m always reading about different accessories out there. I’ve seen a number of people mentioning wanting to connect their laptop to a flat panel tv or an hd tv. (Apparently it’s done differently depending on what laptop you have, some use an HDMI to DVI cable.) What I want to know is why anyone would want to connect their laptop to a tv. I’ve used my laptop while watching tv but can’t see why I’d want to watch tv on my laptop because then I wouldn’t be able to use my laptop without missing the show. So do any of you watch tv on your laptop? How and why did you do it?
