What Easter makes me think of
For me the meaning of Easter is family. The things I think of the most at Easter time are family and my Grandma. Growing up my family spent most holidays together. When my Grandma was alive we’d have three generations present – me, my Mom and my Grandma. My Grandma loved bread. After she became a diabetic and lost her leg she begged anyone who would listen for bread, telling people we starved her. The holiday tradition of me cooking began when my Grandmother died. My Grandma died on Good Friday. We did not expect it that day and some of us have never gotten over that day. A while after her death, my hubby and I moved into my Grandma’s apartment in the lower half of my Mom’s house. I saw her one night, coming down the hallway humming. She stopped in and looked in the bedroom door and told me it was ok. The next Easter would be the first Easter meal I cooked. Grandma is gone now, and many years have gone by. Since the late 1980s I have cooked Easter dinner for my family every year without exception. Grandma isn’t buried locally so I don’t get to go the grave as often as I’d like, but one of the days I always plan to go to the grave with my Mom is Good Friday. I now live in the home that Grandma shared with my Grandpa before he died and before she came to live with us at my Mom’s. I’m still cooking Easter dinner and now there are three generations present again – me, my Mom and my sons. And I know Grandma is looking over us, having some bread.

I’m happy that you know that your Grandma is at peace now. Your living in her home and taking over the Easter cooking shows how important family really is. Keep the traditions alive!

Thanks Skeet.
My youngest is just like her, loves bread. Problem is he’s got Celiac disease (intolerance to gluten) so really shouldn’t have it.
