Unusual family dinners
My son and I were talking today about our family dinners. By family dinners I don’t mean the four of us, I’m also including the rest of my family. If you come to a family dinner with my family you have to be prepared for excitement. There have been two or three times that things went so badly during a family gathering that I would have rather not hosted the meal. I would rather take the best diet pill and skip a good meal rather than sit at the table than listen to one or two of my brothers start family wars. RB announced this year that if one more family dinner ended with me crying we’d wouldn’t be eating with them in the future. TJ’s favorite memory is the year that a food fight started in our dining room. My favorite is one of the dinners we all had while on a cruise in 2005. I’d love to hear what the craziest or funniest family meal you’ve had is. By the way, we even had a car go missing one holiday.

Gads - we’ve had some…erm… interesting meals in the past!! We are a family traveling on bikes - which leads to a some rather unique situations sometimes! One time we were in the desert and had misjudged our food supplies - so ended up eating Lay’s potatoe chips and ranch dip for breakfast - YUCK!
Another meal was peanut butter and jelly - by the spoonful. We didn’t feel like dragging out our stove to cook, and we didn’t have any bread or crackers to put the peanut butter on - so we just ate spoonfuls of it!!
Now we are getting ready to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina - a journey which we expect to take about 2 1/2 years - so we’ll more than likely have quite a few interesting meals!! You can read about our journey at http://www.familyonbikes.org
Yeah, sometimes those family gatherings are better off avoided that attended
