Spur of the moment window shopping

Have you ever decided to just go out and do some window shopping for an upcoming major purchase? I have. I’ve even ended up going spur of the moment window shopping for unplanned purchases just to get out. Lately I’ve started seeing more of those directbuy commercials on television again and I don’t quite get it. Directbuy is a home design showroom open to members only. You can’t just go there and shop or even browse. You must submit your contact information and one of their reps will contact you about joining. Aren’t they losing the entire “spur of the moment” shopper, as well as the “informed and well planned ” shopper? I would think they’re closing themselves off to whole groups of potential customers this way. What do you think?
