Round of applause for those who took the plunge

Time for me to Share Some Good Stuff with Skeet.

The Law Enforcement Polar Bear Plunge took place this past week in Seaside, NJ, about fifteen minutes from my home. This was the fifteenth anniversary of the fund raiser benefiting the Special Olympics of New Jersey. It is the largest single day fundraiser benefiting the non-profit.

First, some stats. Last years plunge was the first held in Seaside (the plunge had previously been held in Point Pleasant, NJ), the water temperature was 33 degrees and more than 2,700 people particpated in raising more than $700,000. So, how did things go in 2008?

Well, this year the water was a little warmer at 38 degrees. The number of participants somewhere around 2,500, a little lower than last year. The amount raised? More than $800,000, more than last year. In one article I read before the event ran one of the organizers stated the goal is a million dollar event. That would be so awesome.

Thanks to all who participated in one way or another. No matter if you donated or got in the water you have contributed to a wonderful program that has an important cause.
