One must look for work in order to find work
Warning, I have a need to vent. So, as regular readers know, RB’s out of work. What you don’t know is that I’m about out of my mind. A couple of weeks ago when his work started slowing down he was home for two days and did all sorts of stuff around the house. Most helpful and most appreciated. He’s not been home for another week and a half and in that time do you know what he’s done? Nothing. Wait, he cleaned the inside of the fridge. Big freaking deal. I’ve tried several times to make suggestions on places he might want to apply. His answer was that noone was going to hire someone with limited skills and pay him what he’s making now. Now that the bank account is rapidly dwindling because all of our bills cycle between the 15th and 30th of each month, he’s just got to go find something. Some money would be better than no money.
This morning I offered to sit with him and create a resume for him. He actually looked me right in the eye and said “what for?”. I keep trying to tell him that looking for a job now isn’t the same as it was twenty years ago. A person can’t walk into a place and get hired anymore. Now you need to apply and then go to an interview (with a resume), and then if you’re lucky you’ll get a call either asking you to interview again or telling you that you did or didn’t get the job. Many people have to put in a lot of applications when they’re looking. He just doesn’t seem to get it that his work isn’t going to pick back up and that it’s going to take him to to find a job. He’s going to have to get up off his butt and start looking this week. After all, you can’t get a job if you aren’t looking for one, right? Ok, I’ll stop venting now.
