Name calling

Many of you probably know that I like to contribute to my pal Skeet’s weekly meme Share Some Good Stuff, which she does a roundup of on Thursdays. Skeet challenges us all to find good news and share it. I am submitting this to her for that meme. I realize it is not your typical good news, but it is an important issue and I think it is good news that it’s getting a little more recognition.

No Name Calling Week is the week of 01/21/08 - 01/25/08. I myself had never heard of No Name Calling Week until now, but think it is an outstanding idea. It is good news that someone has recognized there is a problem with today’s society. The reason that it’s good news is because noone can work towards a solution to a problem until the problem has been recognized. The site describes No Name Calling Week as a week long project to focus on name calling in schools, primarily 5-8 grades. The goal is for students to learn ways to eliminate bullying and name calling from the community. We as humans ought to respect others more, and it is our responsibility to teach our children the same. In wandering around the site I found some interesting activities. The activities may be intended for school but I have another idea on how to put them to good use. Print a couple out and try spending some family time together on one. Not only will you spend some family time together, but you may gain a new understanding or perspective on something.

Skeet, thanks as always for hosting Share Some Good Stuff. I understand if you don’t include this in Share Some Good Stuff as I know it isn’t exactly the type of news you’re looking for.
