Managing Christmas Day visits
Who visits multiple houses on Christmas? My Mom stops over both my house and LB1′s house on Christmas morning to watch her grandchildren open some gifts. Nana and Grandpa are good but they can’t be in two places at once. (Good thing all four children don’t live here and have kids or Nana and Grandpa would be running around so much they’d be skinny and looking like they used Fenterdren.)
So. Each year my brother and I have the opportunity to take turns picking if they want the early or the late morning shift (about 8-9:30 and 10-11:30). I gave up picking years ago and just go with whatever makes it easier for my Mom. If she gets enjoyment out of watching them open then we’ll wait if we can. TJ knows to wait patiently. CJ has always listened and not presented a problem. Until this year.
This is the year that CJ finally decided he didn’t want to be patient. He saw the presents and went crazy. He wanted so badly to open them that he sat cross legged in front of the tree and became very obstinate. I felt a little bad for finally having to scold him, at which point he went to his room feeling pretty bummed. All worked out and nothing was opened before their arrival. I was wondering how those of you that visit multiple family members on Christmas manage your schedule?

We always do Nana’s house on Christmas eve. Then have “our” christmas at home on Christmas morning. Late afternoon we head over to Grandpa’s & Grandma’s house and have a big dinner and do gifts there. And then the out of town grandparents mail their gifts, or come visit (and stay with us) so that saves that dilemma. It does seem like Christmas lasts days here though….
