Lango review and giveaway

| Fri 10-31-08

From the website – “Lango was established on the belief that every child should learn a second language. Frustrated by the lack of options to teach our own kids another language (and having met many other families with the same concern), we set out to create a program that would teach kids new languages in a way that kids will love. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Lango teaches children ages 18 months to eight years new languages in full immersion classes through Adventure Learning©, our innovative approach that combines stories, music and movement, playacting and game-playing in an engaging, format that kids love.

I received a copy of the Lango CD Con Cosmo to check out, courtesy of Mom Select. There’s a sample of the cd on the Lango Stuff page if you want to take a little listen. The sound quality was very good. I thought that the music sounded fun in the same way that some songs do that kids just sing, dance and giggle when they hear them. I only took French, German and Latin when I was younger so there isn’t really much I can say about what they were saying. I think it’s a neat CD for anyone who has a young child they’d like exposed to another language.

I have a copy of the Lango CD Con Cosmo that will go to the winner of this giveaway. To enter leave a comment on this post telling me if your child knows, is learning or will be learning a second language, and what language it is. Contest ends Tuesday 11/04/08 at 11:59 pm est. US addresses only please. Only comments containing the requested information will be eligible. Good luck everyone!

My son will hopefully be learning a second (and maybe third) language. His grandparents speak Spanish, so he will learn that language. We have also discussed German or French. So far we are working on English, but haven’t gotten too far :)

Our Elementry school teaches Spanish one day a week from 1st – 5th grade, so my 2nd grader is learning it. She actually picks it up pretty good, so I’d love to add to her learning. Especially since they stop in 6th grade & cant’ take it again till 9th. My 6th grader has already forgotten almost everything she has learned.

My 7 year old grandson’s father is from Mexico and it would be good for him to learn Spanish. I guess it wouldn’t hurt for me to learn a little myself. Thank you so much!

Sigh. I wish I was fluent enough in another language to teach it to my kids. I do have a smattering of French, Spanish and Latin, so we frequently discuss the trans;ations of individual words, but conversational language is beyond me.

So far, my children are not bilingual, even though their Dad and I both speak a second language. But since they are not the same language, we don’t really speak anything other than English at home. But they will need to start taking a language in school.
