It’s in your hand ma’am
I took my son for an ultrasound today. I’d made an appointment with the radiology department of a nearby hospital. I pre-registered yesterday by telephone. We arrived on time and went to the front desk. The woman behind the desk asked me for the insurance information and the prescription. She took the prescription, which was on a full sheet of paper, from my hands and passed the insurance card back without so much as a glance. She then said “Give me the prescription”. I answered “I just handed it to you”. She looked down in her hands and said “no that’s not a prescription”. I told her that’s what the doctor had given me and suggested she try calling the doctor’s office if there was a question. She said “let me look at it again”. She looked down at the paper again and said “why are you giving this to me?” I leaned over the desk and pointed to the top two lines, printed in caps and bold, which read “PRESENT THIS TO THE LAB OR RADIOLOGIST”, and said “these are digitally prepared prescriptions and the doctor gave them to me so my son could have these tests”. Once again she asked me “so where’s the prescription?”, to which I answered “It’s in your hand ma’am”. Finally she allowed us in and had us go back to ultrasound. It was a very frustrating experience.

that’s what military health care is like….people think “it’s free and you get the best”…ha.
Glad you were able to get your x-rays, though.

Linda – Thanks. My brother is in the Navy and has had a few hiccups with care. Now we just wait for the results for him, I’m nervous.
She needs to change jobs!!
I am so blessed to have a doctor who truly cares about her patients. She never rushes when I’m there, gives me her undivided attention, answers all my questions, has even gone into her lunch time a few times while working with me. She’s an angel! Truly! I had a friend go to her recently. My doctor immediately sent my friend to a specialist – turns out my friend has cancer and her own doctor never even found it through all these years she’s been going to him.
I’m saying all of this to say that the office staff is so nice too. I can’t understand anyone being in the medical field like the person you had to deal with.

Wow, she was rude. I great patients all the time. It’s important when people are scared or worried that you make them more at ease rather than frustrate them.

Karen – She was the person running the check in desk. Yes it was scary.
Melo – I’ll be writing a letter. I wouldn’t even have believed it if I hadn’t been there.
Can’t you report those kind of employees? Talk to a superior maybe?
