Is membership club gas worth it?

No, not that kind of gas! I’m talking about the gas you put in your car.  Wholesale clubs like Costco, BJ’s and Sam’s are popping up everywhere. We had a Costco on the other end of town but in August they closed and opened a new location closer to me which also sells gasoline. We’ve had Wawa gas here for several years now and they’ve always been the cheapest, along with the Sunoco a couple of blocks away. They update their prices daily. I decided to try Costco gas because they were cheaper than everyone else by ten cents a gallon or so. I went to the pump and was told they only accepted debit cards, no cash. Their prices aren’t on a big sign like most gas stations, so it wasn’t until he’d opened the gas tank that I noticed the gas was almost twenty cents more per gallon than the gas station one block away. By the time I turned around and went back there I would have spent the difference in gas so I decided to get some gas anyway. I asked the attendant why they were more expensive and he said it was because they didn’t change their prices every day. I asked him for $25 and gave him my debit card. I got my gas and went home. Later that day I was checking mydebit card account online and noticed a $75 charge on the card as well as the $25 that I’d spent at Costco. I was shocked to see the $75 was a charge from Costco. I called and found out that they out a hold for that much because that’s the price of a typical fill up. Well I didn’t get a fill up. What if didn’t have a lot of money on the card and needed to use some of that money somewhere? I don’t see any big deal about buying gas at a membership club and don’t see myself buying it at Costco in the future. They were more expensive when I went but when their prices are lower than everyone else they have really long lines. I don’t like the way they only take debit cards and then put a hold on money you’re not even spending there. So where do you buy your gas? Do you think buying gas at a membership club is worth it?

We were at Costco the other day and I told my husband to fill up since it was cheaper and he said it wasn’t worth it and the gas there isn’t very good, not sure why.
