How taking my son to the doctor aged me

TJ said his throat was bothering him and his head was stuffy, and he asked me to take him to the doctor. He never fakes being sick and a nasty flu and stomach virus has been making the rounds in our area so off to the doctors we went.

The nurse checked him out, there was no fever. She swabbed for a quick strep test. The doctor came in and gave him an exam. He mentioned that he had a lot of congestion and that his throat was inflamed, and that he had a really bad cold. At that point he looked at TJ and told him he’d need to take it easy for a couple of days and reminded him that kissing and sharing drinks was unwise. He then told us we could expect to see symptoms for up to a week and what medicine to take and we were finished. On the way out I asked the nurse what dosage to take. They told me he’s over 12 and a young man now and that I should get the regular version of medications now instead of childrens and that I could now follow the instructions on the box. Suddenly I felt old. My son was just a child when he went in there!

I would have cried… in fact I may have just teared up a bit at the thought.
