Hearing aid in place

I took my youngest back out to Philadelphia yesterday for his appointment with the audiologist, after getting up at 2am and working 4am to noon. We got to this one on time, the Penn Relays track and field meet was over. The molds of the inside of his ear had come in and one of them was fitted to a hearing aid. The audiologist got that squared away and did a little retesting on the other ear. The hearing aid he’s wearing is a loaner. We go back in a month and if things are working out and it’s helping we’ll move forward on getting him his own. I’m really hoping this will help him and make a difference, but apparently we may not know right off so we also have to keep track of behavior and attention to see what impact this has. It’s only been 24 hours but he’s tolerating it very well so far. He hasn’t taken it off at all, although he asked me twice if I would. He’s supposed to wear it all of the time except bedtime and in the bath. I’m a little afraid of it getting lost so I bought this clip that attaches to his clothing and loops around part of the hearing aid, but it looks kind of flimsy so I may look online for something else. If anyone has any recommendations from personal experience here on loss prevention I’d love to hear them.

Sucks that he has to have the ones that goes over his ears. My friend has been wearing hearing aids for lord knows how long and his are in both of his ears instead of outside. They look like little teardrops almost. Maybe they couldn’t do that with your child becase he is still growing? I’m not sure there is much that could be done to stop a child from taking anything off if they put there mind to it. Although I was lucky enough to get contacts in the 5th grade after I had already been wearing glasses for 3-4 years prior so I was thrilled and very consciencenous about not losing or taking them out because first and foremost I wouldn’t be able to see so I’d assume you could put the same logic to him about not hearing anything and how dangerous it could be.

Blueyes – I’ll have to take a picture. These go in the ear and over the ear. Yes they said this model is best because he is still growing.
