A personal question for you.
I found myself wondering something tonight and decided to ask you all for help. My youngest is still potty training. He needs to be reminded every half hour to hour to go to the potty. At night and if in the car we use Pullups. Today I ran into the store because I needed to get another package of Pullups. We usually get the Cool Alert type, which creates a cool sensation if the child has an accident that is supposed to help them learn to potty. Stop & Shop, the store I ran into, did not have the style I wanted. They had the other type of Pullup, called the Learning Design Pullup. On the front is a design that fades if the child wets. Now let me ask you, who teaches their child to bend over and look at their crotch during potty training? Not me. We’ve been trying to teach my son to recognize, understand and remember signs that he has to go and that it’s uncomfortable if he has an accident. Can someone out there please explain to me the usefulness of something on which the crotch fades? Is it there for the parent’s convenience, so they don’t have to check? That would make it a parent design, or a lazy design, or an ez reader design, but not a learning design. Parents, please comment me back and let me know your thoughts on this.

thats what my mom did for me… same as what tiffany did/does. I didnt even know they had such high-tech pullups these days… but i wouldnt think the color change on the crotch would helpp too much. it might be something the child grows to love -_-
Potty training was one of those standard parenting things I missed out on, but I do understand advertising and this is definitely a “parent’s ease” design. The only thing kids will learn from peering at their crotch is poor social skills.

Lisa and aahz, I’m thinking the same.
we do not use pullups I do not believe that they help in potty training, It is just a diaper that can be pulled up and down. I found the best way is to use underpants, they are really uncomfy when they are wet. All mine were potty trianed with in 3 days of switching from diapees to undies.

Having used this kind myself, I think it is for parents convenience

Pull ups did nothing in the way of helping my son toilet train. They were too much like diapers to motivate him. What did work was an egg timer and regular underwear. He learned to set the timer for an hour and when it went off he had to go use the potty regardless. One week of doing this and he was trained.
My niece is being potty trained. Harder than it looks, isn’t it?
I never thought of it with the Pull Ups but you are right.

Pull ups are like a bigger version of a diaper. They really arent very effective and most daycares dont allow them. The best thing to use it thick cotton underwear, if you want to get across the point that it is an uncomfortable feeling.
claire - My son is 8 and in a self contained special needs classroom so they’ll allow anything he needs. As mentioned though he’s in pullups for at night and in the car. He’s ok going pee in the potty but must be reminded. Not much luck yet with #2.
pussreboots - Pussreboots - He’s in underwear all day, but needs constant reminding. He’s ok going pee in the potty but must be reminded. Not much luck yet with #2.
tina - That applies to more than toilet training right? LOL.
yuck - Nowhere did I say I was chemically burning my child. Comment deleted.
