A bittersweet moment of pride

If you read this blog regularly you probably know that my youngest brother is in the US Navy. He’s shipping out today for the Middle East. I have known this day was coming for months, actually we’ve known it would come eventually for more than a year. But I didn’t realize how heartwrenching it would be when the day actually came. Two times I’ve spoken to him on the phone today and both times the words just couldn’t cover all of my feelings and I found myself struggling for words. I cannot even imagine what my parents must be feeling. We’re all very proud of my brother and his choice to serve our country. My brother’s has always been willing and felt ready to go until recently, due to events in his personal life regarding his daughter. I’m sure this day is very hard for him as well.

Since I don’t have an oak tree on my blog to tie a yellow ribbon around, I have placed a yellow ribbon on this blog that will remain until he gets home. Godspeed brother, we love you and we will miss you. Come home safely.

Tell him thank you from another blogger, me. It must be hard for him but I am glad there are those who are willing to go.
