Putting away the Christmas presents

Each year my kids get new things for Christmas, as do many. They get presents at home from us and from Santa of course. After we’re finished at my house we go to my parents house for dinner. The kids usually get enough toys there that if we didn’t have our own truck we’d need hire some New York movers to get them home. Once all the presents come home we have to find places for them. Each year, before I let my older son put his new things away I have him go through his older ones and pick out anything broken and anything he doesn’t play with. We get rid of anything broken that cannot be fixed. Anything he no longer plays with we list on Freecycle in the hopes that there is a child that will want it.

Having five children in our house for Christmas I totally understand your dilemma. Why just this year at my nephew’s birthday party the clerks at Geoffrey’s (ToysRUs) made the comment that they had never seen one child get so many toys for his birthday. They had to use nearly three full carts to get them to the car and he is just three years old! Time for gift cards for Dad to buy him some clothing or gifts of money for his college eduction, you think?

:o)
